Mkay, some things change over time in a really meaningful way.....

Context: I had to buy a new smartphone and got myself a fancy Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro.. Really nice hardware for the money .. not the latest SoC but still good enough and 6gb ram + 128gb flash should last a very long time...

On top of that, this beast boosts a fricking 5020mAh battery.. which is huge... Actually _more_ than half of my biggest powerbanks.... *yikes* ;)

But now comes the very best part. It has a quickcharge capable USB-C socket.. And included was a nice 15w USB charger... Whenever i plug it in, the phone starts to count more than 0.1% charge per second..... which is just... insanely cool.

And so i come to the very best change in my "smartphone habits" overall.

Usually, and i think lots of us ppl more or less "grew up" with that since we have cell phones, are used to plug the phone in at evening, at least when we go to bed.... To get it fully charged in the morning.

Which worked out well .. but meant, that the battery was charging for some few hours and then basically sat at 100% charge, for the rest of the night... And whenever it even got down to 99% oder 99,5% charge, it would be immediately fully charged up back again.

Which wasn't ideal in the first place even on the older NiCad batteries we had (yes, my very first cell phone was a Siemens S6 which NiCad battery)..

With lithium-ion batteries, things are actually a bit worse sadly...

They're like to be treated like we treat ourselves .. like humans..

They thrive in similar temperature ranges (about +15 to +35°C) and their chemistry likes it to be somewhere in between 25 and 75% of charge.... They have no problem with getting fully charged at all, but they don't like staying at that for any prolonged time. Similar as we don't like to eat any more when're we are really full. ;)

Luckily, the phone now can charge a completely empty battery to full within about 16 minutes (right now, with a nearly factory fresh battery)...

SO.... instead of having it on the power plug all night long, i changed my "charging habits" some bit .... so that i usually plug in the charger once a day, usually in the early evening or so, charging it up to 100% .. and then unplugging it, living just from the battery all night long and usually for the better part of the day too....

Additionally, it's very very easy for me to avoid that i get low in battery too, because when i plug it in, like let's say around 1900 (7 p.m.), it has at least still 30~38% of charge... (thanks to it's humongous battery)...

In the long run, because of avoiding un-healthy battery charge regions, i expect this battery to last at least half a year longer compared to my old and very shoddy charged battery......

Just some 2 cents about modern stuff..... ;)

P.s.: Tl;dr: i still charge the battery up to around 95~100% each day, but because i unplug it, it doesn't _stay_ there for any time. ;)

Bei einem Gewicht der Zelle von 28g war auch kaum was anderes zu erwarten. Eine gute Zelle wiegt knapp 50g. Bisher hatte ich mit den Billigzellen noch kein Pech, aber irgendwann ist immer das erste Mal.
