#sunglasses

While I wouldn't say I'm a great fan of #cycling when it's barely above freezing, it does have certain likeable features. For a start I hardly sweat and the wind chill factor certainly wipes away any sleepiness and you can forget your other problems for a while. On the down side, my fingers and toes soon start to feel numb. Today is very #sunny and so I had the rather incongruous pleasure of wearing #sunglasses in #December. I also passed by a #PicketLine of #Striking #Nurses outside a small local community #hospital and so rang my bell and gave them a wave.

It's the hottest day of the year so far with shade #temperatures nearing 30°C. In direct #sunlight it's a lot hotter of course. While #cycling recently, I've can feel #insects bouncing off my face quite regularly. I'm sure they just then go on their merry way. Another advantage of wearing some #sunglasses or other eye protection means that they don't strike one's eyes. (Admittedly, last summer I did encounter a freak situation where a #bee got stuck in between the sunglass lens and my eye but no real harm was done to either animal.)

It was sunny enough today to merit wearing #sunglasses while #cycling. This time of year, the sun never gets too high in the sky and there are bound to be stretches where it shines directly into one's eyes and so they have utility rather than just for the poseur effect. Also, through a combination of having to stop frequently and general traffic, I find it's quite easy to beat #buses on the leg of the journey from the #CityCentre to my home. No big deal but it's a good way of gauging journey time against other modes of transport.
