One of on light #rail stations. It seems to be close to finished. The other shot is the #bike path that will connect it.
The #architecture is all neo-futurist.

If trains had the same standing as planes

12.09.2023 Novaramedia: Finnish Trains Are What the UK Could Have If It Gave a Shit
Rather than sardining passengers into cramped carriages built to maximise ticket sales, Finnish trains are built for living. Childrearing, work calls, hot meals, having a pint with your mates â all are possible on the Finnish train. The result is that while Brits endure countless hours of mute suffering, Finns actually enjoy travelling by train. One I met recently told me that some of her fondest childhood memories are from the train â imagine! Meanwhile, four in 10 Brits polled in 2018 hadnât stepped foot on a train in the past year â and frankly, who can blame them?
Wow. Just wow.

#HS2 is officially âunachievableâ after being given red rating
The HS2 #rail project was last week given an âunachievableâ rating by the official infrastructure watchdog. A âredâ rating was assigned to the plans for the construction of the first two phases of the high-speed line, from London to Birmingham and then on to Crewe in Cheshire, by the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA).
âSuccessful delivery of the project appears to be unachievable. There are major issues with project definition, schedule, budget, quality and/or benefits delivery, which at this stage do not appear to be manageable or resolvable. The project may need re-scoping and/or its overall viability reassessed.â
Not promising, is it?
This month, HS2âs chief executive, Mark Thurston announced his resignation after delays and cost pressures for the railway project. He is to leave his role in September after six and a half years leading the government-owned company.
HS2 was initially scheduled to open in 2026, but is now projected to open between 2029 and 2033 because of construction difficulties and rising costs.
Fear not, though:
A Department for Transport spokesperson said: âSpades are already in the ground on HS2, with 350 construction sites, over ÂŁ20bn invested to date and supporting over 28,500 jobs. We remain committed to delivering HS2 in the most cost-effective way for taxpayers.â
