Hearing the Language of Trees

https://www.yesmagazine.org/environment/2021/10/29/hearing-the-language-of-trees

What if you were a great teacher, a holder of knowledge and vessel of stories, but had no audible voice with which to speak? What if your listeners presumed you to be mute, save for the passive whispering of your needles? How would you bring your truth into the world? Wouldn’t you dance your story in branch and root? Wouldn’t you write it in the eloquence of cellulose? In the lasting archive of wood? Plants tell their stories not by what they say but by what they do. They tell their story in their bodies, in an alphabet once as familiar as the song of every bird, which we have also forgotten, as we became afflicted not only with plant blindness but plant deafness as well.

I was looking at a tree trunk washed up after the last flood and I realised it had stones embedded in its roots. With all the bark gone and just the white wood the stones looked pretty.

If I had some tools it would be interesting to cut out the sections and make something. Which would also require skill, hmm no tools and no skill just thoughts

#Merits of #Planting #Fig #Tree

The #Padma #Purana (Srishti Khanda 58) describes the merits of planting Fig tree.

The fruits that a man obtains by planting an Fig (Fig) Tree on the bank of a pond is not obtained even by hundreds of sacrifices.

The leaves of the Fig Tree falling on the water of the pond on the parvan days are like rice balls offered to the manes and bear inexhaustible merits.

The fruits of the Fig Trees are eaten by the birds, and like food being offered to Brahmanas, give inexhaustible merits.

The Fig Tree gives shade to cows, deities, brahmanas etc during hot season. The manes of that person, who plants Fig Tree live in heaven.

By planting one Fig Tree, a person is not abandoned from heaven, therefore, O man, plant this great Tree.
