As it's almost the #Equinox, the #Sun is setting virtually due #West these days. This #sunset is a bit deceptive as it seems to show heavy #mist with the sun's disc very diffuse and almost invisible. Actually, the sky is relatively clear towards the #zenith. Still, I do like the layered progressive #haziness of the land.
Today is the #December #Solstice, marking the start of #Winter in the #NorthernHemisphere and #Summer in the #SouthernHemisphere. It occurs when the #Sun is at its most southerly #zenith at midday. This year it is at about 21:48Z meaning that it will be somewhere precisely overhead in the southern #PacificOcean, but well to the east of the #InternationalDateLine. It also means that the Sun will set at its most southerly bearing of the year tonight giving you either the longest night (NH) or longest day (SH).
