Yshá`Yâhuw (Isaiah) 58

Legalists building a foundation of repentance from dead works delight in judgment

  1. "Call out with your throat – don't hold back! Raise your voice like the trumpet (showphâ´r) and declare to My people their rebellion [apostasy], and to the house of Ya`aqóv their lawlessness! 2. Though day by day they seek Me and knowledge of My ways, they delight like a heathen mass that justice be done and the judgment of their Power not be forsaken, they ask Me of the judgment of righteousness, they desire the coming of the Power. 3. "Why is it we fasted but You did not see it? We humbled ourselves yet You did not recognize it!" [ZkharYâ´hu 7:1-6] Look! On the day of your fast, you find pleasure and you exert demanding pressure on all of your underling laborers! 4. Look! Ye fast for the sake of argument and contention, and to strike the lowly with a wicked fist! Ye aren't fasting for Me as if today your voices are to be heard on the heights by means of a cry. 5. Is it a fast like this that I have chosen? A day a man is to afflict himself? To bend down his head like a drooping reed, and to lie down in sackcloth and ashes? Is it for this [purpose] ye call a fast and a day of goodwill for Yâ-hwéh?

To us He says: (Bar-Nâvíy 3:3)

  1. Isn't this other one the fast I have chosen, to loosen every bond of iniquity, to untie the bindings of forced conjugal arrangements [1 dirt-man and causing-life 57:7, 59:6, 68:5], and to send off the crushed ones freed ones? So you shall tear up every unjust conjugal arrangement, 7. Isn't it to break up your Bread for the hungry, because you see the naked and you clothe him; and the stray afflicted ones you are to bring into the house, and you shall not shun the household of your Seed. 8.Then shall your Light break forth like the dawn, and your restoration shall quickly spring up, and your Righteous One shall go forth before you, and the Worthiness of Yâ-hwéh shall gather your rear, 9. Then you shall call, and Yâ-hwéh shall heed you, even while you are yet speaking He will say, "Look, here I am with you"; if you remove from among you the yoke, to point the finger and the word of vanity [Matt. 12:36], 10. and you furnish your own Bread to the hungry and you satisfy the afflicted life (néphesh), then your Light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness be like the noonday; 11. And Yâ-hwéh shall guide you continuously, and He shall satisfy your life (néphesh) in parched areas, and your bones He shall brace up, and you shall be like a well-watered garden and like a spring of waters whose waters have not disappointed (325). 12. And from you shall be rebuilt the ruins of antiquity, they raise up the Foundation of generations upon generations, and you shall be called 'the mason of the breach', 'the repairer of the pathways to have one's abode'. 13. If you draw back your foot from the Shabbâ´th which works your pleasures during the Day of My pureness, and you call the Shabbâ´th a delight for the Pure One of Yâ-hwéh to be honored, and you honor Him without working your own ways, without doing your pleasure or uttering a word of indignation from your mouth, 14. Then you shall be happy about Yâ-hwéh and I shall mount you on the heights of the land, and I shall feed you the inheritance-portion of Ya'aqóv, your father, because the mouth of Yâ-hwéh has spoken it."

(325) The term used here also means deceive, tell a lie, and apparently contrasts the true Bread with the word of vanity mentioned in verse 9.
