From a colleague in Russia, about a new bill which makes psychologists beholden first to the state. THEN to the client/patient.
This is one of the scariest things yet from 21st-century Russia in terms of "society", & "mental health".
I gave some lectures in Moscow & was very impressed by the legacy & depth of Russian psychology research and practice. It seemed an island of academic rigor. Now: Morality police?! "Therapy?"
Thoughts of protest, distaste for genocide, etc., might be "treated", but any therapists who attempt to help with trauma, anxiety, depression, etc. are "anti-Russian" and will have their licenses taken away if they actually provide proper treatment rather than orientation towards fighting for the MotherLand. Putin's Russia today.... Shared with me by a colleague anticipating an end to the profession as most know it. No more mental health research or support - "anti-Russian" sentiments cannot be allowed. Stalin II.
