Ukrainian soldiers in Bakhmut: âOur troops are not being protectedâ
This is from the Ukrainian government backed media writing about the brutality of this war.
The more time goes, the more gruesome this war becomes and the push for fight to the end from both sides is creating a mountains of dead and injured on both sides plus many innocent civilians caught in between.
Russiaâs relentless assault on Bakhmut is sacrificing waves and waves of unprepared men being sent to their deaths.Â
But multiple defenders of this embattled city in Donetsk Oblast feel that they are in a similar boat, according to interviews with more than a dozen soldiers currently fighting in or around Bakhmut
....
Mortarmen spoke of extreme ammunition scarcity and having to use weapons dating back to World War II. Drones that are supposed to provide critical reconnaissance information are also scarce and are being lost at very high rates in some parts of the battlefield.
All this leads to terrifying casualties of both dead and wounded. "The battalion came in in the middle of December⌠between all the different platoons, there were 500 of us," says Borys, a combat medic from Odesa Oblast fighting around Bakhmut. "A month ago, there were literally 150 of us."
âWhen you go out to the position, itâs not even a 50/50 chance that youâll come out of there (alive),â says the older Serhiy. âItâs more like 30/70.â
Nothing like this can ever come out from the Russian side, but I am sure their losses are significantly higher since they are trying to break into a city where 1000 of soldiers have been prepared to stand against their invasion.
Reading it brought back horror memories from Iraq invasion and the 8 years of bloody war that followed. I am afraid that this war may drag on many years in different forms, even if it may stop in it's current conflict, but the fire that was started can not be put out that easily.
