Russian telegram channels are celebrating an early victory: ⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Front #Summary for 19 Feb 2024 by 20:07⚡️

🔹In #Kherson Direction, without changes, an AFU boats were sunk again during an attempt to land on the left bank.

🔹In #Zaporozhye Direction, our forces are heavily fighting for #Rabotino, both sides are digging into the positions. So far it is known that ours in fierce fighting have reached the geographical outskirts of the village from the west, south and southeast. The AFU positions are already being attacked from three sides. Advancement is also recorded near #Verbovoye.

🔹In #SouthDonetsk Direction, our units are advancing west of #Staromayorskoye and in the area of #Prechistovka. Our Artillery thwarted AFU attempts to rotate their forward positions.

🔹In #Avdeyevka Direction, our sappers report that the mining in the city is dense, there are many traps. They are not surprised to meet a lot of #NATO weapons. Meanwhile, our forces are attacking #Lastochkino, where the enemy's presence remains. The AFU's aim is to gain time to consolidate on the main defensive line. At #Nevelskoye, our troops advanced about 1 more km.

🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, our army is approaching the outskirts of #Ivanovskoye (#Krasnoye) with a broad front from #Khromovo to #Chernobylts. The half-encirclement of the AFU in the village looms. And our military has already gained a foothold in its northeastern outskirts. Our Aerospace Forces, artillery and drone pilots continue to very methodically hit any AFU targets in the direction of .Chasov Yar up to pickups.

🔹In #Svatovo Direction, on the #Seversk front, our forces pushed the AFU back about 1 km on the approaches to #Vasyukovka and gained a foothold in the landing. In the #Liman sector, the further advance on #Terny is not easy. In #Kupyansk sector, after the liberation of #Krakhmalnoye and #Tabayevka, there has been no progress for some time. Meanwhile, our artillery is active. The reason that Zelensky is near #Kupyansk today is the high risk of activation of attacks from our army. It is said that there is a high accumulation of our forces.

💥The AFU struck #Makeyevka with MLRS today, damaged an oil depot, there is a wounded man. Three children in #Panteleymonovka and a resident of #Donetsk were injured. Furthermore they tried to attack a civilian facility in #Mariupol by a British kamikaze drone with 7 kg of explosives. It was intercepted and landed. #Ukraine reports that they have shot down two more Russian aircraft. So far it is known that our plane was shot down near #Mariupol. Moreover, according to the first version, by our own air defence. The MoD refrains from commenting which is not a good trend.

🎯Our Forces hit In #Kramatorsk enterprises used by the AFU to create armored parts for military equipment. In one of the hangars, a Bradley IFV was covered. In #Lvov, an enterprise producing drones burned at night. They write that the underground put down their security and set the plant on fire.

'I wanted to save lives.' How pregnant medic kept working on front line amid heavy combat

In between rescue missions in eastern Ukraine, in the midst of heavy combat, Yuliia #Romanenko got some elating news: she was expecting a child.

But she did not even consider quitting her job as a combat medic with the 67th Mechanized Brigade, which was fighting near #Bakhmut, the hottest front at the time.

"I faced a dilemma: how to combine (pregnancy) with (military) service, with the desire and goal that brought me to the army," Romanenko said

"I joined the military with one aim — to save people. I did not want to stop."

Romanenko, 33, continued evacuating the wounded weeks into her pregnancy and saving lives close to the front line until the eighth month.

Defense Ministry after #Ramstein summit: Ukraine to receive more long-range weapons

Commitments were made to supply Ukraine with additional long-range striking capabilities, among other things

Russia has used six times more artillery shells than Ukraine, sacrificed an average of 400 soldiers in exchange for one square kilometer of land," exceeded Ukraine's capabilities in producing first-person view (FPV) drones, but despite all this, has not come close to its strategic goals.

It can hardly be considered an achievement that the huge military industry of Russia, the whole army of the aggressor, spent a whole year to capture the ruins of two cities#Bakhmut and #Marinka

Video shared on social media, show what they claimed to be the village of Klischivja, southern front of Bakhmut, that Ukraine declared "liberated" yesterday, where the positions and heavy equipment of AFU received massive artillery shells as aell as storm of Russian troops and armored vehicles resulting in recaptured of the village from the Ukrainian troops.

This war is getting bloodier every day that passes and the Russians claim the attacks against bridges around Crimea is the direct results of the failure of Ukrainien military on the ground where they have received significant casualties and loss of NATO supplied equipment.

Ukraine said on Sunday its forces were on the defensive against Russian assaults near the eastern city of Kupiansk, while noting gradual progress near the hotspot city of #Bakhmut

"For two days in a row, the enemy has been actively attacking in the Kupiansk sector in the Kharkiv region. We are on the defence," Deputy Defence Minister Ganna Malyar said.

"Fierce battles are going on, and positions... change several times a day," she added.

#Ukraine last month began its highly anticipated fighback after stockpiling Western weapons and building up its offensive forces.

PS. Counter offensive is now being called "fightback", isn't #propaganda language in this war just unbelievable? /Farhad

Ukrainian forces have suffered losses in heavy equipment and soldiers as they met greater than expected resistance from Russian forces in their first attempt to breach Russian lines in the east of the country in recent days, two senior US officials tell CNN.

One #US official described the losses – which include US supplied #MRAP armored personnel vehicles as “significant.”

Ukrainian forces managed to overrun some Russian forces in the east around #Bakhmut. However, Russian forces, armed with anti-tank missiles, grenades and mortars, have put up “stiff resistance,” with their forces dug into defensive lines that are several layers deep in some areas and marked by minefields that have taken a heavy toll on Ukrainian armored vehicles.

Both US officials say the losses are not expected to impact the larger planned Ukrainian counteroffensive. US and western officials long expected the counteroffensive to take time and put Ukrainian personnel and equipment, including Western-supplied systems, at high risk.

Douglas Macgregor joins us to discuss what is going on in Ukraine in this breaking news update.
Macgregor gives his assessment of where things stand on the ground. They talk about the astounding casualty numbers and the horrifying nature of the battle over #Bakhmut. Macgregor then gives some predictions for the next stages of the war. They talk about the rising tension with China. They agree there is no need to go to war with #China but discuss what may explain the sudden attention shift towards #Beijing. Lastly, they talk about the effects of cronyism in the weapons industry and the probability of a nuclear war.

Douglas Macgregor is concerned about the future of the United States and Europe. He stresses the need for nations to work together. Interesting and probably honest views on the conflict in Ukraine and American policy. I don't agree with all of his views, but the interview provides details on the current problems.

#ISW assessed on September 11 that the loss of Izyum doomed the initial Russian campaign plan to attack Slovyansk from multiple directions and that even the seizure of #Bakhmut would “no longer support any larger effort to accomplish the original objectives of this phase of the campaign since it would not be supported by an advance from Izyum in the north.” ISW also assessed that Russian offensive operations against Bakhmut and around Donetsk City have “lost any real operational significance for Moscow and merely waste some of [Russia’s] extremely limited effective combat power.”

Wagner mercenaries shifted their approach to seizing Bakhmut to a focus on encircling and trapping Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut City by expending a high proportion of their estimated 40,000 prisoner recruits in deadly human wave attacks. At least 22,000 prisoners disappeared from Russian prisons between October and November 2022 alone - likely as a result of Wagner’s prisoner recruitment efforts. A Russian opposition outlet concluded that 55 percent of the total reported Wagner fatalities in October occurred just on October 24 and October 27 – when Ukrainian forces resisted Wagner assaults on the eastern outskirts of the city. The outlet concluded that the number of social media reports commemorating Wagner servicemen increased by more than 2.5 times as they were committed to suicidal drives on Bakhmut’s immediate outskirts.

Over 100 000 death on both sides for this?

Was is hell, war is stupid, war is meaningless and war is evil.

Experts estimate that more than 100 000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers died during the 9 month battle of Bakhmut.

It is one of the bloodiest conflicts in Europe and the results are just glory of Russian leaders over a burned out city, rotting bodies of soldiers and mercenaries and an ongoing meaningless war to create more death and destruction.

Ukraine propaganda? : Ukraine Races to Forge New Army Ahead of Offensive

#Kyev is training military recruits to take part in imminent move on Russian forces

“Kyev has been holding some 20 brigades back from the fighting and training them to break through Russian lines and hold any ground taken. The hope in Kyev is that when its offensive begins, Russian forces will be depleted from their assault on #Bakhmut

“Our enemy has the advantage in manpower, artillery—everything,” he said. “We have to use our creativity, our skills.”

Another amonition depot in Ukraine was hit by Russian missiles

The videos from Odessa shows massive explosions followed by fire at 2 locations in Odessa.

It seems like Russia is receiving accurate coordinate of Ukrainian military storage facilities and their missiles manage to penetrate all Ukrainian air defense without difficulties.

This was the 7th major loss for Ukraine in the past 6 days.

The so called Ukrainian counter offensive that started last week was either a test run or failed to initiate any major progress.

The break into Bakhmut was signaled as a beginning of the loss of the city from Ukraine sources, but the areas captured by Ukraine where recaptured by Wagner paramilitary and Russian army.

No news about the Ukrainian troops losses or POWs been published.

Biden’s team fears the aftermath of a failed Ukrainian counteroffensive

🔵 Those concerns recently spilled out into the open during a leak of classified information onto social media. A top secret assessment from early February stated that Ukraine would fall “well short” of its counteroffensive goals. More current American assessments are that Ukraine may make some progress in the south and east, but won’t be able to repeat last year’s success.

🔵 Ukraine has hoped to sever Russia’s land bridge to Crimea and U.S. officials are now skeptical that will happen, according to two administration officials familiar with the assessment. But there are still hopes in the Pentagon that Ukraine will hamper Russia’s supply lines there, even if a total victory over Russia’s newly fortified troops ends up too difficult to achieve.

🔵 Moreover, U.S. intelligence indicates that Ukraine simply does not have the ability to push Russian troops from where they were deeply entrenched — and a similar feeling has taken hold about the battlefield elsewhere in Ukraine, according to officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the U.S. hasn’t adequately armed his forces properly and so, until then, the counteroffensive can’t begin.

🔵 A counteroffensive that doesn’t meet expectations will also cause allies in foreign capitals to question how much more they can spare if Kyiv’s victory looks farther and farther away.

🔵 “European public support may wane over time as European energy and economic costs stay high,” said Clementine Starling, a director and fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington, D.C. “A fracturing of transatlantic support will likely hurt U.S. domestic support and Congress and the Biden administration may struggle to sustain it.”

🔵 “If Ukraine can’t gain dramatically on the battlefield, the question inevitably arises as to whether it is time for a negotiated stop to the fighting,” said Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations. “It’s expensive, we’re running low on munitions, we’ve got other contingencies around the world to prepare for.”

🔵 The fighting has taken a toll on the Ukrainians as well. Fourteen months into the conflict, the Ukrainians have suffered staggering losses — around 100,000 dead — with many of their top soldiers either sidelined or exhausted. The troops have also gone through historic amounts of ammunition and weaponry, with even the West’s prodigious output unable to match Zelenskyy’s urgent requests.

🔵 U.S. officials have also briefed Ukraine on the dangers of overextending its ambitions and spreading its troops too thin — the same warning Biden gave then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as the Taliban moved to sweep across the country during the U.S. military withdrawal in 2021.

“We hoisted the Russian flag with the inscription ‘Good memory to Vladlen #Tatarsky’ and the flag of PMC Wagner on top of the city administration of Bakhmut,” Prigozhin said in the clip. Evgeny Prigozhin dedicated the “formal” seizure of the key Donbass city to a killed Donbass-born Russian war blogger.

“Legally speaking, Bakhmut is taken. The enemy is concentrated in the western districts,” the head of the PMC added.

The battle for #Artyomovsk/ #Bakhmut has emerged as one of the most intensive and bloody engagements of the armed conflict in #Ukraine, with both sides reportedly suffering significant casualties. Western officials have claimed that the city poses no strategic military value, but Kiev Regime head Vladimir Zelensky pledged to defend it as long as possible after proclaiming the city a fortress.

Kiev’s attempts to cling onto Bakhmut, regardless of the losses, has “almost destroyed the Ukrainian army,” Prigozhin claimed earlier this week. However, Wagner fighters, who led the charge to capture the city, also took “a serious beating,” he acknowledged.

President Zelensky & his military chiefs have “expressed a common position” to keep defending the eastern town of Bakhmut. General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, commander-in-chief of #Ukraine's armed forces, said its defence was of “paramount strategic importance.”

I really don't understand the significance of this city for the Ukrainian part. 10s of thousands have died defending it, many more Russians have died conquering it. For what exactly?

In one video, an Ukrainian soldier, one of the few surviving member of his unit, said that the goal of their team was to hurt Russia as much as possible, kill and injure as many troops as they can to "make it easier for the Ukraine's incoming counter offensive".

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his military chiefs have “expressed a common position” to keep defending the besieged eastern city of Bakhmut, the Ukrainian leader’s office has said.

General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, said the defence of Bakhmut was of “paramount strategic importance”. “It is key to the stability of the defence of the entire front,” he said.

In a statement, Zelenskiy’s office said the Ukrainian president and top government officials and military commanders had discussed the situation in Bakhmut, where Russian and Ukraine forces are taking heavy casualties.

It said:

After considering the defensive operation in the Bakhmut direction, all … expressed a common position to continue holding and defending the city of Bakhmut.

Zelenskiy and the military command also discussed the pace and scale of the supply of weapons and equipment from Ukraine’s western allies, and how to allocate them to the troops, it said.
