Diese Prachtlibellen sind in Nordamerika weit verbreitet und halten sich gerne im Uferbereich langsam fließender Flüsse und Bäche auf. Die Männchen sind metallisch blau-grün und haben schwarze Flügel. Die Weibchen dagegen sind etwas zurückhaltender gefärbt und haben weiße Markierungen an den Flügelenden.
