My teeth are chattering now, here in the (sometime) semi-tropics... Brrrr.... Yes, it sure feels...

Cold, Cold, Cold!

Cold, cold, cold
Cold, cold, cold
Freezing, it was freezing in that hotel
I had no money, my special friend was gone
The TV set was busted so she went along
I called room, room service,
I'm down here on my knees
A peach or a pear, or some Charlie
But they was cold

Or a dime to make a call
'Cause it passed me up, or it passed me by,
Or I couldn't decide at all
And I'm mixed up, I'm so mixed up
Don't you know I'm lonely
And I wish the world would get off of my case
And get on one of its own

Cold, cold, cold
Cold, cold, cold
That woman was freezing, freezing cold
Well I tried everything to warm her up
Now I'm living in this cold hotel
'Cause she passed me, up or she passed me by,
Or I couldn't decide at all

Oh I'm mixed up, yes I'm mixed up
Don't you know I'm lonely
Of all the things I had to do
I had to fall in love
You know she's cold

Turn your clock back woman when you see me comin' round
My feet don't, feet don't even touch the ground
don't be cold, don't be cold
don't be cold, don't be cold

Something different...

I began by looking for a video clip of a performer I was reminded of by a recent Jethro Tull concert.
It was his falsetto I recalled with 'Tull's' "Mine is the Mountain" (the refrain sung by Ian Anderson).

Meanwhile the Tull vid is drawing all sorts of discussions, Anderson should give it up, what's a Jethro Tull, give them a break, respect the legend, people age, parallels to Robert Plant and others ... OK, so this is for all the old folks still bogeying away, be it on stage for generations of fans, or on the couch or rocking to oldies or tuning into the current decade's music.... This is for those who can and do.

Little Feat: Old Folks' Boogie

Old Folks Boogie

Off our rockers, actin' crazy
With the right medication we won't be lazy
Doin' the old folks boogie
Down on the farm
Wheelchairs, they was locked arm in arm
Paired off pacemakers with matchin' alarms
Gives us jus' one more chance
To spin one more yarn

And you know that you're over the hill
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill
Doin' the old folks boogie
And boogie we will
'Cause to us the thought's as good as a thrill

Back at the home,
No time is your own,
Facilities there, they're all out on loan
The bank foreclose, and your bankruptcy shows
And your credit creeps to an all-time low

So you know, that you're over the hill
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill
Try and get a rise from an atrophied muscle,
And the nerves in your thigh just quivers and fizzles
So you know, that you're over the hill
When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill

Banana Trump

Yellow reminds me (musically and visually) of many things, from Donovan's Mellow Yellow to Yellow Submarine and of course, Banana...;

Seeing the above cartoon reminded me of a great Little Feat Song...

Skin It Back

The lyrics were rather prescient too, and definitely applicable to the co-subject in the cartoon:

"Well I'm waitin' for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race...
Runnin' around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado...
GEORGIA'S SO SWEET...." Full Lyrics Below

One more great taste of Little Feat!

"Juliette" - Live, May 23, 1975 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia

I may have posted this somewhere in a thread but only know totally focused on it, watching, listening, & getting context....
I know I mentioned this in passing, one of the great songs of the more instrumental/jazz flavored versions, similar to how Jethro Tull had a "classic" bent as well as straight-ahead rock.

So this video was made in 2021 (but I sure missed it!) and it is the best take I've ever heard of this song live.
Incredible performance, blazing , and decent audio for way back when and now via YouTube. (Imagine a fatter bass). The guitars! 🔥
And the kicker: Watch the video! LOL....

Great video, great song, great performance here, by a great band.

Up top of a new post....

One of my very favorite bands and a favorite song of theirs, following some reading and posting about The Band, The Last Waltz, and comments/discussions regarding both the cut-throat rivalries over writing credits and royalties as well as issues of drug abuse, sometimes to the point of overdose &/or suicide.

'It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers..." - Little Feat/Skin It Back

Listen loud &/or earphones - they were one of the premier bands who were masters of studio recording, and Lowell George played a mean slide guitar (the whole band was razor-sharp tight). 🎧

Skin It Back" - Little Feat/Skin It Back

Well I'm waitin' for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race
'Round city to city, town to town
Runnin' around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado
A thief of love, my business is the street
I be shakin' 'em down
In old Colorado
Texas she's nice, but Georgia's oh so sweet
Steal away with me darlin' your lovin' just can't be beat
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You're a dream, and that's all that I ask for
So well now, I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you
Skin it back (skin it back)
Somethin' real, somethin' to feel
I can't find a soul who'll take on this mess
It's those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers
Please, please darlin' put my mind at rest
I'm beggin' please darlin' put my mind at rest
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin' but so what
I don't doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You're a dream, and that's all that I ask for
So well now, I'm wonderin' just how I'm gonna tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you

Part 2 / Lowell George Delight

Long Distance Love

(Lyrics are below &/or on the video)

Seeing that vid was what reminded me of of so much that he and his friends brought to American music.
An intro to Little Feat too... Enjoy! Happy Sunday or whenever day. 🎶. Isn't the Internet lovely?

~~
Earlier I posted a live session with Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George doing Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home.
That was a 1972 'bootleg' from the studio, totally live. Bonnie makes a point of calling (the late, great) Lowell George "cute!"
50 years ago as I post this! (2022) Remembering Lowell George now, who like Duane Allman, went way too soon. :(

The YT gods just smiled on me and served this up, from that same exact era, but with the focus on Lowell and his song. It's (IMM) one of the most beautiful songs out of Little Feat, almost like a Michelle, or Angie. The Feats were always the ultimate studio musicians, super-tight, like Steeleye Dan, say, but more emphasis on the rhythm & guitar section than orchestral arrangements.

Anyway, for anyone familiar or not with Little Feat .... Here the song raw and new and plainly shown, again, sort of like "Get Back" or that Raitt bit. Real, and well recorded overall, especially in the recording studio rather than radio setting. But live takes.

Here is a song which - like Willin' and a few other country crooners, and the beautiful All That You Dream, - is both sweet and well arranged. When this song came along, their studio (vinyl) albums were highly polished; they were at home there, not touring much.

Long story short: I'm serving this up first, as it just hit me over the head and inspired me to share the video and the back-story.

AFTER you watch this ancient (1/2 century) old filming of the early days of this song, where you can see Lowell George like few have...as songwriter. After you see this song, I recommend you see/hear how it finally came out. Polished, and he can play the guitar.

Lyrics to enjoy the early version with below. Plus a few references at the end of the end.

Long Distance Love
Oh, hello... give me missing persons, they said
"What is it that you need"?
I said, oh, I need her so
They said you've got to stop your pleading
And no matter what I do, even pray to heaven above
All you'll ever get from her is
Long distance love
I read the papers
And I got the Blues
I was so sad to hear the news
Help wanted, but not enough
You know these times are gettin' rough
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I ever get from her is
Long distance love
Whoo, oo, oo
You know her toes were so pretty
And her laugh so sweet
I wonder does she know
Does she know she hurt me so?
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I seem to get from her is
Long distance love
Ohoo, long distance love
Ohoo, oo, oo
  -Lowell T George

OK, one song bubbles to the top of the heap for me, reflecting both themes of rolling, rivers, and the daily news pile...
This one to me, sort of blazes and shows off one of the finest bands of "musicians' musicians", with a bit of frantic energy on this one.
Maybe dedicated to all the #TrumpVirus cultists watching the slowly grinding wheels of justice and "woken"ing to #truth.

Cat Fever

Cat Fever - Little Feat
Livin' in strange dreams, takin' prescribed medication
Where will it take me, where will it take me?
My vision's all marred by a careless chance visit on the part of me

I got cat fever, cat fever

Well, my breathin' is harder sittin' in back of the theater
When will she make me, huh, I got her to take me
Forgot about fixin' the leak in my faucet
What come over me?

Whoa, I'll let my dogs loose, prayin' that they will protect me
Give me a bullet, mmm, one silver bullet
I won't let them get me 'cause the demon figures that are after me
Got cat fever, whew

Wow, was not expecting this: a new Little Feat release!
Speaking of this great, great band - the gold standard of studio musicians turned touring band - with Lowell George (RIP).

Dedicated to some of us around holiday time! :)))
Another of their classics: "Fat Man in the Bathtub" - with saxophone!

Fat Man In The Bathtub (45th Anniversary) - Little Feat

Spotcheck Billy got down on his hands and knees
He said, "Hey momma, hey let me check your oil all right?"
She said "No, no honey, not tonight
Will you comeback Monday
Will you comeback Tuesday, oh, and then I might"
I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita
What are you up to, my Juanita?
I said Jaunita, my sweet taquita
What are you up to, my Juanita?
Well, I don't want nobody who won't dive for dimes
I don't want no speedballs 'cause I might die tryin'
Throw me a line, show me a sign
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan
Billy got so sad, dejected, put on his hat and start to run
Runnin' down the street, yellin' at the top of his lungs, oh
All I want in this life of mine is some good clean fun, oh
All I want in this life and time is some hit and run
I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita
What are you up to, my Jaunita?
I said Jaunita, my sweet taquito
What are you up to, my Juanita?
Let me put my money in your meter, baby, so it won't run down
But you caught me in the squeeze play on the cheesy side of town
Throw me a line, show me a sign
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan
Moan, I hear you moan, baby
I hear you moan, baby
I hear you moan
I hear you moan
I hear you moan, baby
I hear you moan
I hear you moan, baby
Hear you moan
I hear you moan

Just listened to a song from Dixie Chicken by Little Feat... (Two Trains Running)
That reminded me of another favorite from this all-time favorite band (and album).
This is the live version, from *Waiting for Columbus".

Little Feat: "Dixie Chicken" (Live)

Haven't heard this in years, and it is... on point! Don't know Little Feat? Here they are. Legends.
Note/warning: It ends abruptly ('here') at 8:55 - rather than segueing into the next song....
