https://universeodon.com/@david_castleton/113494053198118129 david_castleton@universeodon.com - The torch-bearing arm of the Statue of Liberty was displayed in New York's Madison Square Park between 1876 and 1882. Completed before the rest of the statue, the arm - it was hoped - would encourage contributions to raise the funds to finish the figure and its pedestal, a task that would prove difficult. Those who paid 50 cents could climb to the torch balcony. #NewYork #weird #architecture #urban #history #psychogeography

Columbia paid $395,000 in settlement after suspending Jewish student for using ‘skunk spray’
Back in January, two Israeli students sprayed pro-Palestine protesters at Columbia University with an unknown substance that later turned out to be "skunk spray" (used often by IDF against Palestinian farmers and villages in occupied west bank). They were suspended for 18 months.
Now it comes out that Columbia has paid one of those students $395,000 for being “excessively and disproportionately disciplined.”
Surely it's just a matter of time before all those egregiously suspended and expelled pro-Palestine students get their checks too, right?

Just wrapping up d month of "Work" - themed photos...
Served up some old faves of construction and artists, street peddlers, drivers etc
So today I took a few shots just walking around the city, so of course today nobody was out on cranes or bulldozers. But... ah,
I see you -working within a wall of candy - and yes, actual newspapers, too.**

Playing with a photo group's theme of the month: "At work".
Along with some obvious choices (construction, markets, etc.) I settled on this "life imitating art imitating life - and work"...
Seeing this painting "develop" and this photo now, I'm reminded of the stepwise work of @kennychaffin@diasp.org ! :))
Another image I chose is an old(er) favorite from long ago, on Kodachrome, The Turkish Peach Peddler.
So, there's a little slice - oh yes, pizza making was in the mix too! - of some old & new #work
Much more - despite the demolition of Google+, where I had 8 years off photo collections - remains on my own vintage site:

Paris hatte sie, Wien hatte sie, und London sowieso: große Parkanlagen. New York wollte Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts auch welche. Kleine Geschichte vom Central Park, der aus reinem Neid entstand
Now for something different..
Sunday in the Park - Pt 2 - A serene Erhu Concert, in Bethesda Arcade, Central Park (NYC)
Heavenly #erhu #music in Central Park - Part 2
My 1st goal - aside from exercise & enjoying a beautiful Sunday in the Park- was to inaugurate & test a new camera.
✔︎
A 2nd goal was to get some more/better images of the famous and beautiful ceiling.
Designed by Jacob Wrey Mould and created in the 1860s, the Arcade features a stunning tiled ceiling with more than 15,000 colorful, patterned encaustic tiles from England’s famous Minton Tile Company. These elaborate tiles were originally used on the floors of European cathedrals. Bethesda Arcade is the only place in the world where these special tiles are used for a ceiling! [cenralpark.com]
Video1 was grabbed with an iPhone, which I must say did a nice job. This 2nd one, after scrambling to set up the new camera, is in true 4K and (for me) 'feature length' - long compared to my nature snippets. Be sure, if viewing on hi-res-big/bright screen, to set the YT player (gear at bottom of picture) to 4K, if it didn't choose it with the 'auto-set'). It makes a difference in "being there", as the mix of serene music and people and pets strolling by and up/down the Bethesda Terrace stairs... Serene. And I guess the camera works ok.
Sorry for the shake - hand-held and trying to realistically 'look around' and also get some screen-grab-quality images of the tiles.]
Enjoy!
