Biochemist Marie Maynard Daly, who studied correlations between heart attacks and cholesterol, and between smoking and lung disease, was born #OTD in 1921. Daly was also part of the team that established the primary nucleic acid bases.She was the first Black woman to receive a chemistry PhD in the US.

6 March 1936 | Dutch Jewish boy, Hartog Levie, was born in Amsterdam.

6 März 1936 | Der niederländische jßdische Junge Hartog Levie wurde in Amsterdam geboren.

In November 1943 he was deported to Auschwitz from Westerbork. He was murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

Im November 1943 wurde er von Westerbork aus nach Auschwitz deportiert. Nach der Selektion bei der Ankunft wurde er in einer Gaskammer ermordet.

The Mercury-Atlas 6 mission launched #OTD in 1962. John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth, circling 3 times in the Friendship 7 capsule.John Glenn was skeptical about the computer controlled trajectory, and said he wouldn’t trust it until mathematician Katherine Johnson had checked it by hand.

Russian playwright and short-story writer Anton Chekhov was born #OTD in 1860.Chekhov renounced the theatre after the reception of The Seagull in 1896, but the play was revived to acclaim in 1898 by Konstantin Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theatre, which subsequently also produced Chekhov's Uncle Vanya and premiered his last two plays, Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. via @wikipedia

Today marks nine years since the Odessa massacre, when pro-Russian civilians were burnt alive by Ukrainian nationalists in the House of Trade Unions, Odessa.

The coverage of the massacre on WikiPedia is truly nauseating! Calling the slaughter of civilians by Azov and other neo-nazis for "2014 Odesa clashes"!

But hey, the world is black and white and this is the war between the good western friendly forces and evil Putin, don't you dare saying otherwise.
