Iranian wildlife association is celebrating the birth of the endangered Persian wild ass in captivity.

The Iranian nature preservation association published the picture the mother seen with the baby for the first time yesterday. The report says that the group of Onagers loving in the protected national part of Kavir (desert) close to the city of Garmsar in Iran.

The Onagers are a unique species related to the African Zebra despite their look and lack of stripes like their African cousins.

It is a happiest news I have heard from Iran in a long time.

The Persian onager (Equus hemionus onager), also called the Persian wild ass or Persian zebra, is a subspecies] of onager (Asiatic wild ass) native to Iran (Persia). It is listed as Endangered, with no more than 600 individuals left in the wild and only 30 individuals living within North American institutions.
