A new order in the Middle East? The ripple effects of Saudi-Iran rapprochement

In Yemen, more than 900 prisoners were released this past week as momentum builds to end the nine-year conflict there. This is linked to the fact that the leadership in Saudi Arabia and Iran are talking to each other again. The two powers broke off relations seven years ago, impacting politics and conflict across the region. So now that diplomatic ties have been restored, what might change? We take a closer look and speak to Julien Barnes-Dacey, the Middle East Programme Director at the European Council on Foreign Relations.

The US Navy said Saturday it had seized one million rounds of ammunition along with rocket fuses and propellant being smuggled on a fishing trawler from Iran to war-torn Yemen.

#Yemen doesn't have the right to defend itself. It is not like #Ukraine so weapons going into the country gets confiscated and sent to Ukraine instead.

Greenpeace : A ticking time bomb.

"An oil spill from the #FSOSafer would completely close Yemeni fisheries, which support 1.7 million people.

The entire Red Sea region's drinking water supply could be contaminated"

The Red Sea is under imminent threat of a massive oil spill from an aged Yemeni tanker. The UN's plans to avert the disaster have stalled for lack of funding.

The derelict oil tanker FSO Safer, moored some five miles (6 kilometers) off the Yemeni coast in the Red Sea and used as an oil storage facility, is a floating environmental catastrophe waiting to happen.
