For the third day in a row, #Arctic #sky watchers are reporting a widespread outbreak of #polar #stratospheric #clouds. "The colors are spectacular," says Ramune Sapailaite, who photographed the display over Gran, #Norway:
"The clouds were visible in the sky all day, but the #colors really exploded just before #sunset," says Sapailaite. "I took these pictures using my cellphone."
Widely considered to be the most beautiful clouds on Earth, polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) are rare. Earth's stratosphere is very dry and, normally, it has no clouds at all. PSCs form when the temperature in the Arctic stratosphere drops to a staggeringly-low -85 C. Then, and only then, can widely-spaced water molecules begin to coalesce into tiny ice crystals. High-altitude sunlight shining through the crystals creates intense iridescent colors that rival auroras.
During a typical Arctic winter, PSCs appear no more than a handful of times, and the first sightings usually come in January. This week's apparition marks an early start, and may herald many more PSCs to come.

It has been a fairly long time since I posted any #pictures of a #sunset but today has been totally grey, dull and rainy for the whole day except at this time of day where the #clouds thinned and let the #Sun's light filter through. There were some magnificent #orange #colours and I think that this #photograph goes some way to capture what it was really like.
You know the old saying, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight" well tomorrow is going to be a sunny day after many cloudy ones.

Schließlich: Zurück. Dunkle Räume und einige bunte Bilder, in denen sich der Mittwoch verliert. Mit geschlossenen Augen kurz in die Nachbarschaft lauschen, dem Klappern und Rasseln und Klopfen zuhören, das aus den Häusern klingt, von der Straße her tönt, in den Höfen widerhallt: Schritte, Fahrräder, Mopeds, tönernes Geschirr, ein schwererer Transporter, und Fetzen verschiedener Musik, samt einer groben Ahnung, aus welcher Richtung der Wind diese heranträgt. Der letzte Morgen scheint Meilen zurück zu liegen, aber die Notizen sind trotzdem noch nicht trocken, die Erinnerungen noch nicht sortiert, das Übrig-Gebliebene noch nicht auf das Morgen und Übermorgen verteilt. Es wird wohl so bleiben, heute. Bis wieder Sonne über den Horizont zieht, Geist wieder klarer und Augen wieder größer sind.

6pm and slowly on. Between ivy and lilac: Cleaning up, sorting things, small work done to prepare bigger work. Pale beer, pale skies, surrounded by ants and insects. City's close, city's far, in a way thoughts have calmed in physical movement at some point. Evening draws near once again.

Fortgeschrittener Abend, zwischen Wäschekeller und Hinterhof. Regen verstummte, Mond schläft noch, für einen Augenblick gleitet der Blick nach oben dorthin, wo Wolken den Kosmos und die Sterne verhüllen und Scheinwerfer von irgendwo Unleserliches schreiben. Nachhall der Woche in Gedanken, ein Knäuel loser Enden in der Tasche, so kratzig wie bunt. Auf der Terrasse über der Haustür werden Tisch und Stühle zusammengeklappt, die Luft kühlte ab, schmeckt nach Laub und Wasser und Beton und Bier. In allem schwingt Nacht.
