#goldfish

I love #goldfish and have three of my own. It's been a learning experience:
* They get bigger than you think.
* If they aren't getting bigger, the water quality is poor.*
* They don't need as much food as they beg for.
* Your tank is too small.**

They are beautiful pets with personalities and need boundaries - the boundaries of your #fishtank, #aquarium, or #pond, and absolutely do NOT belong in the local waterways.***

*Some goldfish do stay small, and are more expensive than the prizes at the fair. Do a quick search online to see the adult size for the labeled variety because the goldies in the pet stores are usually babies. They usually get bigger, fast!

**Too-small of a tank is a common problem with fish in general, but especially goldfish. They need a bit of room to swim and don't stay 2" forever. No fish belongs in a 1G tank. Not even a Betta.

My advice is to do a bit of research first on tank size, but don't go for the smallest recommended tank. You can live in a 4'x6' room, but would you be happy?

See also, filters: whatever the minimum filter size is recommended for your tank, personally, I'd double it.

***This video also illustrates the benefits of a #zoo in the community. #Zoos have a problematic past, starting out as little more than curiosity shows with sad caged animals for people to gawk at. Now, they give more natural habitat to the animals so they are happier. Zoos serve to preserve rare animals, keeping species going while we figure out how to preserve their natural habitat.

They also educate the public so fewer people dump invasive species into the local environment.

NEVER dump aquarium fish into the waterways!

Thank you.

Last night, as I was drifting off to sleep, almost there...
I am rudely awakened by a splashing sound and water sprinkled on my face!
Who would do such a thing?
Curly*, my largest #goldfish, splashed me from the #aquarium a full 3 meters away!
I don't think it was on purpose, but... the line of splash marks on the carpet was directly from the tank to where I was sleeping. Makes one wonder, LOL!

*I'm guessing it was Curly as she's the largest, and Larry and Moe were asleep behind the log.
