I built a 3rd section of chicken run, finished today and immediately let the birbs have at it.
The purple plants are a type of hibiscus. There was also a bunch of Spanish needle (a weed) growing. The chickens eat both. The fence is 8 foot high and topped with bird netting. The gate is a section of hog panel.
They were very happy and rooted around there most of the day.

Don’t make the mistake of assuming this is just a passing phenomenon. It makes sense to prepare for a time when medical care and pharmaceuticals are not easy to get in the United States.
Here's some papaya seedlings... Trying to get a jump on next year's crop. These will have to over winter in the greenhouse to survive the January - February cold... Last spring I planted the seeds in February and we have just started harvesting fruit. And only 2 survived to produce... I hope to get them earlier next year! (The chickens love the papaya!).

Eye of the hurricane passed directly over us... What a trip. Electric has been off line since about 2am. We just had enough of a break in the wind/rain to pull out the generator and get the freezer/fridges plugged in as well as satellite tv and interwebs. Fortunately its not hot here so no need to run the air conditioning yet.
Going to hook up the well in a bit so we can all take a shower... 😏
No damage to report around me... Chickens are a bit freaked but other wise are OK.
