Gay icon Sun Ra (given name: Henry Blount, legal name: Le Son'y Ra) famously told anyone who'd listen that he was from another planet. Interestingly, he never backed down from this claim. When he checked into a hospital near the end of his life he listed his address as "Saturn". When drafted for WWII he was jailed as a conscientious objector, another stance he never backed down from. One of the few jazz artists who wrote lyrics to his songs, his was a lifelong message of #love and understanding.
