The 16-year-old dishwasher I saw for free on the side of the road might not seem like much of a deal, but my girlfriend’s one was 20 years old so I nabbed it. Only thing wrong with it was a broken handle, but replacements are now only available in black and require purchasing the entire latch assembly. Instead I modeled one and 3D printed it. Were a couple others online already but they were a bit crudely done. Gotta sand those nasty layer lines... #3dprinting #repair

Handbag ‘smaller than a grain of salt’ sells for over $63,000

The New York art collective MSCHF has created a "Microscopic Handbag," based on a Louis Vuitton design, which sold for over $63,000 at auction. The bag, less than 0.03 inches wide, was made using two-photon polymerization, a 3D-printing technology for micro-scale parts. The handbag, smaller than a grain of sea salt, was sold with a microscope for viewing. MSCHF, known for its provocative art projects, suggests this creation is a commentary on the fashion industry's trend towards impractical, brand-signifying mini bags.

PrintNanny claims to be "the operating system for 3D printing". It's just coming out of beta testing and becoming available for general use.

Apparently its primary purpose is to watch your 3D printer and alert you if anything goes wrong. It has a monitoring/camera system that works without an Internet connection. Well first of all, you install it on a Raspberry Pi 4. And in addition to the camera system, it includes a software system for controlling your 3D printer called OctoPrint. And you have the option to use it with other systems for controlling the printer.

I’ve been getting more into the game Gaslands with my son and also with adult friends. It’s a Mad Max-esque tabletop game where you’re expected to create your own game pieces by kitbashing with toy cars. I already have all the crafting, painting and 3d printing supplies I need from my other wargaming hobbies, so the barrier to entry was incredibly low. It’s a lot of lighthearted fun. Here is my latest creation.

My first time changing filament during a 3D print. Making a new housing for my GF’s solar LED lamp that got damaged (“someone”…cough, cough…knocked it off a shelf where it was stored for the Winter onto the concrete floor) and rather than just copying the original, I asked her for input. She liked an Art Deco heart pattern so I adapted it a bit and, since it’s far too fine to use structurally, printed it flat onto a layer of transparent PETG. Only 0.6 mm thick so it can be bent easily, so I’ll wrap it around adhere a thick clear ring, again of PETG, and glue it. #3dprinting #artdeco
