GSConnect is KDE Connect for GNOME desktop users

Green background showing a graphic of a laptop with a Linux Tux penguiin on it. To the right is a graphic showing an Android smartphone with Android logo on it. Two-way arrows join the laptop and the phone.
For Linux, KDE has developed a solution called KDE Connect. It works better in the KDE environment and hence we have the GSConnect extension for GNOME desktop users.

GSConnect is an implementation of KDE Connect itself. While KDE Connect may already work on GNOME, GSConnect gives a better experience for GNOME users.

Hopefully, this makes the rich experience of KDE Connect a bit more seamless and enjoyable for GNOME desktop users.

KDE Connect is Now Available for iPhone and iPad but…

Bild/Foto
An official KDE Connect mobile client is now available on the Apple App Store. The addition of this official iOS app means folks with an iPhone and/or iPad can benefit from a deeper set of integration between their mobile devices and their Linux desktop. So things like seeing battery level, notifications, shared clipboard, sending files, etc are what should work.

But, this iPhone so…. the app will not work in the background, which is a bit of a pain for things like notifications. The app is trying to address that, and as of now, the clipboard pushes from the phone to the Linux desktop, but not the other way. So consider it work in progress, but at least the app has made it from TestFlight to the main app store.

Yes, I know, I used to use the app on Android, and it did do everything. If you’re a Linux user with an Android phone, you certainly want to use this app.

KDE Connect Arrives for iPhone, At last, And Here’s How to Try It

If you are one of the KDE Connect fan, and was waiting for iPhone+KDE Plasma integration, then good news for you. The KDE Team announced that the popular KDE Connect applications is now available as iPhone app.

It's in Beta test phase using TestFlight and everything is not yet fully functional. I got my device connected and could push clipboard contents from the phone to my Linux computer (but not yet from PC to phone), but much of the other functionality is not yet there. And of course being Apple, it seems to disconnect whilst in the background.

But great thing is it is in Beta and things are happening!

If you use an Android phone and Linux, you really need to consider using KDE Connect for excellent integration

This guide explains what is KDE Connect and its features, how to install KDE connect in various Linux platforms and Android and finally how to sync Android phone with Linux desktop using KDE connect in order to access files and notifications from Android devices to Linux and vice versa.

There is really rich functionality to be made use of with this integration. I just wish that this was also possible for iPhones (but Steve declared that it was not to be because we hold it incorrectly...)

KDE Connect is one of the best ways to integrate your Android smartphone with your Linux desktop - Now the tech is available for Windows users too

An official beta build of KDE Connect for Windows is available for testing, though it’s only accessible through a special link to the Microsoft Store app listing page at present. This means you can’t open the Microsoft Store, search “KDE Connect” and install it that way.
