On the way to Digital Society more cash is in need
As in the past years, Estonia, according to President Kersti Kaljulaid on its way to Europe's first Digital Society, needs more cash, especially change in circulation. Around 20 million coins (for 1,3 million inhabitants) are newly produced in 2018.
Like it has already happened in 5 other European countries, the 1 and 2 cent coins are proposed to be removed from circulation.
Minting of these coins, however, will most likely go on for collectors, as in Italy etc.
