And a cosmic i-Ching selection, inspired by a wonderful book I just finished, "Dreaming in Cuban".
CONTEXT: This novel is the story of a Cuban family, pre-and post the 1959 Revolution. Some family escape to Miami and Brooklyn, most remain in and around Havana. Some get drawn into the nationalism/politics, some to Santeria (religion).
In the book, Pilar (named after Hemingway's boat!) finds her tormented soul can be soothed by an upright bass guitar, which a boyfriend encouraged her to get and learn, which she does, by chance.
Thin-sliced: Pilar is in mental anguish and now finding a bass, goes running out to the record bins to buy (for 50 cents) a scratchy copy of her guiding light: Lou Reed, Velvet Underground with Nico. This.
Suitable for a Sunday morning. And bass aficionados, & Lou Reed fans.
