Roseate Spoonbills

At Myakka River State Park (FL) before heading South to the Everglades. A calm day today with a little time to sift through the phone and even a card or two from camera. The good stuff will likely be via YouTube (sorry, but ad-free at least) and on Flickr.

(I can't post lots more big images 'here' without deleting many things I submitted to groups, contests, etc.... just a hassle, though I tried, so....)

"Making lemonade when you have lemons" mode has been challenging and fun (creatively). Fewer wading birds all around South Florida this spring, but OK, I would like something new: Crocodiles! No. I found bugs. (Or they found me.) Some were photogenic,
Some were scary.

I tried various abstract things with the light and shape and colors around me. Hope to eke some of that out soon.

Today was butterfly day!

Atala Butterfly

I'd heard from a handful of folks as I took a walk which was recommended - very close to me, in a bird sanctuary. A unique butterfly which only grows on a rare shrub which grows here; interesting color and pattern (luminous blue/purple).
Today many caterpillars were on those bushes. Springtime for them too.

And then after a long time there I found a Butterfly House in the Wilderness, pretty cool...

So butterflies and abstract 'impressions' to come, well into when I return to NYC in time to avoid hurricanes, Love Bugs, and a trillion cicadas in June.

My camera and my feet are soooo dead!

Everglades Sampler #2

Sorry they're pared down to medium size (the dragonfly is really cool full-sized)
but I've got limited bandwidth/space. Still sorting through what I've got, as I squeeze camera cards into laptop.

These here are all right in the Everglades, the 'city' or nearby Big Cypress National Preserve - home to the hemisphere's largest Cypress stand. I did some botanical sampling too, air plants/bromeliads. Still to come: sunsets in the marsh.
Wading birds are rather sparse state-wide just now, compared to normal (due to climate/weather) and though I'd have liked to find a few colorful smaller birds (like buntings), I just missed them. (Not an 'early bird'.) Tried out some new angles on sunsets. We'll see.

Happy #Justice Day America, or so it may begin... Hope and spring, spring eternal.

Happy Solar Eclipse Day 2024

The best I could get, impromptu, from SW Fla....
(It looked cleaner/crisper w/eyes & glasses) I guess this is the 'psychedelic' version.
This is the sun (eclipsed by the moon) at its peak at this location. It's not (though it looks like) a crescent moon.

Not a single barking dog, over-priced water bottle/souvenir, or cloud in the sky. Beautiful day for an eclipse.

Happy Good Friday/Easter!

I apologize I've not found (m)any new photos to post recently, as I've been repairing my camera, lens & self. But...
here's a souvenir from my last visit to a favorite Old Cypress swamp.

And... I've planned a trip to a new spot for me, one of the world's biggest swamps, and the furthest South in the U.S. By car, boat, and foot, hopefully some new things soon (April). Happy Holidays (and spring!)

Spring is springing (soon) in New York...

Just a phone snapshot from while walking about on a drizzly, chilly day...

It's been very changeable, actually, beautiful & bright (but cold), a. warm day here & there, some dark rainy days, and rinse/repeat.

Actually some here are enjoying the many sightings of daffodils, thinking the tulips are soon to come, while doves are returning to windows.... (who?) Like this photo, most of the displays are in local street displays/private gardens, with last weekend bringing out many urban gardeners plus building and city landscapers. And soon, art...

Anyway,, just happy to see the faith we have that it will soon be a happy time for flowers, daffodils next.
Sorry the post from the street came out 'limited' (and thus looping many notices), as well as rotated.

Onward.... was just walking to the post office to mail in some tax stuff when I noticed this. Spring is here.

Oh yes, public post now so I should mention my collection of real "flower photography" @

Sampled, a few first picks from a few days of images Soon it's time to head off On the Road Again.

I can't control the order kthey show here, nor caption them individually, but, sanderlings are the little ones that scurry on the rocks.

But first some calm time, sitting near the docks on the bay. whistle whistle.... 🎶

Here is a juvenile Great Blue Heron - largest heron in North America - an adult with seasonal aigrettes, here with a young one in the nest still, although old enough to have started turning grey/blue. Like the (snow white) Great Egret, the adults grow fine aigrettes (fan-like crown feathers) during mating/nesting season. And the youngsters for a time, sport this sort of "punk"/Mohican look.

This family here is next door neighbors to a large nest of Great Egrets, with equally energetic chicks and with parents sporting beautiful aigrettes during mating season.

Here is the Great White Egret family next door (from last spring):

And many more birds nesting on Flickr and my own online rookery. ;)

The best of "snow photos" in my neighborhood yesterday.
Some may call it a "dusting". But it's the first snow I've seen in NY for a few years. (We've become a 'semi-tropical island'!)

Dark and not a pretty day, but some of the tree/planter displays were sort of nice. (When you get lemons... 'lemonade!)
Not that I'm longing for our old-fashioned blizzards like we used to see.

Here are some more wintery, "classic" images of Central Park in Winter White.
