Moldova's Foreign Minister: Russia attempting to overthrow democratic government in Chișinău

"The Russians are learning and adapting, and they’re trying to use the democratic process against us … to topple the democratic government in Moldova," noted Popșoi.

He said that Chișinău knows that the Kremlin plans to invest "a lot of energy and financial resources" into their efforts to achieve their goals, including through the bribery of Moldovan citizens, via their proxies.

Russia would continue its hybrid warfare in 2024 on the eve of the presidential elections and the referendum on the country's accession to the European Union.

While the prospect of the war escalating to an all-out clash between the alliance and #Russia has so far been averted, there are concerns that the West has not truly accepted that it may still be a possibility.

Several #NATO commanders and other alliance leaders have warned in increasingly stark terms in recent months about the dangers of such a #war and what impact it could have across #Europe.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in January that a war with Russia could occur within the next five to eight years, and a top German NATO general warned that Russian #missiles could likely target Germany in the event of such a conflict.

International support for Ukraine is not charity but an investment in global security, #NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a visit to the Pentagon on Jan. 29.

“NATO allies are providing unprecedented support to Ukraine, and it’s important that we continue to do so”

“Our support is not charity; it’s an investment in our own security because the world will become more dangerous if (Russian) President Putin wins in Ukraine.”

Stoltenberg noted that NATO allies and partners, when combined, have contributed more financial assistance to Ukraine than the U.S. has alone.

The U.K. must increase its military readiness and prepare for the possibility of a land war with Russia that could see civilians conscripted into the army, the U.K.'s Chief of the General Staff, General Patrick Sanders, said

"Ukraine brutally illustrates that regular armies start wars; citizen armies win them," Sanders said, adding that the U.K. cannot simply rely on its air and naval power.

Civilians in NATO countries should be ready for the prospect of an all-out war with Russia within the next 20 years.

Slovak PM promises to block Ukraine's NATO entry, says it must cede territory

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico came out with another anti-Ukrainian public statement on Jan. 20, telling Slovak radio that he would block Ukraine's accession to NATO.

Fico is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Jan. 24.

The Slovak premier, who consistently joins Hungarian leader Viktor Orban in repeating Russian talking points about Ukraine, then claimed that Kyiv is dominated by Washington.

He said Ukraine will have to give a piece of its territory to Russia, which he called a "compromise."

NATO will launch its most extensive military exercise in recent decades, involving about 90,000 troops, U.S. General Christopher Cavoli, the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, said

The Steadfast Defender 2024 drills will be held from late January to May with the participation of NATO members and Sweden. They will be the biggest since the Cold War, Reuters reported.
