The Lion of Venice is a chinese import!

it’s an 8th-century Chinese bronze sculpture that arrived in Venice, was transformed, dismembered (“thanks” to Napoleon), repositioned, and studied over time, yet remains an enigma. Stylistic studies supporting the Chinese origin—Tang Dynasty—are solid, surpassing the older hypothesis of a Hellenistic statue from Anatolia. — https://www.archaeoreporter.com/en/2024/09/12/the-lion-of-st-marks-square-in-venice-is-chinese-isotopic-analyses-and-stylistic-comparisons-prove-it/

I am still waiting to hear or see some of the famous "Muslim", feminist and "activist" celebrities to raise their voices.

The silence of these hypocrites, after almost a year of unbelievable daily war crime after war cdime documented and broadcast by the criminals themselves, ww still can count the number of people who have spoken up and raised their voice against it with my fingers.

Things like this should not be shocking or surprising, I it should be the normw.

But sadly it is as rare as honest politicians these days.

I had really not much idea what to expect of Venice but I have to say I instantly loved it. It's a tourist trap to be sure, but it's a tourist trap for a very good reason. Like other tourist hotspots, parts are extremely crowded, but mainly only at the choke points - other parts are busy, but not unusually so. And plenty of streets, even very picturesque ones with beautiful canals and cute little bridges by the dozen, are totally empty. The canals really are almost everywhere, not just some gimmick (even if the obligatory gondolas surely are).

Having spent last weekend absolutely baking in the 31 C heat and humidity of Padova, I wasn't sure that Venice would be a good idea even for a day trip. I don't get on well with heat or humidity and throw crowds into the mix and I'm not usually a happy camper. But it was only €5 for the train trip (and the same for the tourist tax) and I didn't have anything else to do today.

Fortunately in the morning, the small shady streets and sea breeze were enough to fend off the worst of the heat, and though busy, it wasn't the standing-room-only nightmare I envisaged except in a very few select spots. By mid-afternoon the temperature became much more oppressive though, at which point I retreated.

I would recommend Venice to just about everyone. It's a great place to get lost in, highly varied, cafes and restaurants aplenty, endless things to see, with a really nice, relaxed, convivial atmosphere about it. I'll definitely be coming back in the off-season.

#Artists refuse to open Israel pavilion at #Venice Biennale until ceasefire is reached

Curators protesting against Gaza conflict say ‘art can wait but women, children and people living though hell cannot’.

The artists and curators of the Israeli national pavilion at the Venice Biennale have announced their decision not to open until “a ceasefire and hostage release agreement is reached” in the conflict in Gaza, on the opening preview day of the largest and most prominent global gathering in the art world.

A sign on the front of the Israel pavilion in the Giardini, or public gardens, in Venice, one of the main venues for the Biennale, conveyed the team’s decision – while the pavilion itself is guarded by three armed Italian military personnel.
