In the Here and Now
Where was I before he happened to me?
I thought I could just go back there, and pick up where I left off.
Well. That didn’t last long.
Before Him is too far back there. I can hardly remember it.
In the Here and Now,
He comes crashing through every door and window.
He slides down a Hollywood banister that I don’t even have.
He rises up from an underground elevator on the sidewalk.
He’s the guy riding a bicycle that just went by.
He’s the time on my clocks.
He’s in the water coming down on me when I’m taking a shower.
He’s in the pillows where I lay my head and in the sheets on my bed.
He’s in a breeze that knocks me over.
He’s the spoon that stirs the sugar in my tea.
He’s in all my tears and smiles.
My heart is full of him, and weighs a thousand pounds.
I close my eyes and see the Spirit of him and
hear a song…“Have a Little Faith in Me.”
