#Artists refuse to open Israel pavilion at #Venice Biennale until ceasefire is reached

Curators protesting against Gaza conflict say ‘art can wait but women, children and people living though hell cannot’.

The artists and curators of the Israeli national pavilion at the Venice Biennale have announced their decision not to open until “a ceasefire and hostage release agreement is reached” in the conflict in Gaza, on the opening preview day of the largest and most prominent global gathering in the art world.

A sign on the front of the Israel pavilion in the Giardini, or public gardens, in Venice, one of the main venues for the Biennale, conveyed the team’s decision – while the pavilion itself is guarded by three armed Italian military personnel.

BODIES#2 Group Exhibition

Into Gallery’s next exhibition will take place in Ku’damm, continuing our series of “moving exhibitions” launched in December. We will introduce the works of 23 #artists who have the #body as an instrument to discuss urgent contemporary questions, which is also Into Gallery´s curatorial focus.

#Artworks carry a diversity of issues using different artistic mediums, encompassing painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Our artists offer a distinctive lens through which to unravel the intricacies of the main theme – spanning from overexposure to the absence of the human body. The artworks present complexity in their content and greater aesthetic refinement to excite the viewers.

The “moving exhibitions” occupy different spaces in the city highlighting talented Berlin and international artists and it will take place in Ku’damm on March 28th.

Why Is the #Amiga so Beloved in the #Demoscene?

The Commodore Amiga and its Undying Adoration by Anarchist Creatives

The Commodore Amiga is a successful line of personal #computers from the mid-1980s to 1990s. At the time of its introduction, the Amiga had superior #graphics and #sound capabilities compared to all other home computers. This magical computer enabled its young users to create graphics, #music and #animations with a level of sophistication that was previously unattainable in the home.

To this day, the Amiga holds a great significance in the demoscene, a niche #subculture of #developers, musicians and #artists who create real-time audiovisual presentations called demos.

This essay investigates the gestation of the demoscene, the Amiga platform's revolutionary beginnings, its emotional resonance within a dedicated community, and its broader influence on the field of computer graphics and music. Why is the Amiga still one of the most beloved and significant platforms in the demoscene?

TEREZIN was a concentration camp 30 miles north of Prague in the Czech Republic during the World War II. It was originally a holiday resort reserved for Czech nobility. Terezín is contained within the walls of the famed fortress Theresienstadt, which was created by Emperor Joseph II of Austria in the late 18th century and named in honor of his mother, Empress Maria Theresa.

By 1940 Nazi Germany had assigned the Gestapo to turn Terezín into a Jewish ghetto and concentration camp. It held primarily Jews from Czechoslovakia, as well as tens of thousands of Jews deported chiefly from Germany and Austria, as well as hundreds from the Netherlands and Denmark. More than 150,000 Jews were sent there, including 15,000 children, and held there for months or years, before being sent by rail transports to their deaths at Treblinka and Auschwitz extermination camps in occupied Poland, as well as to smaller camps elsewhere. Less than 150 children survived.

‘Putting a number on #art’: #musicians nervous as #Spotify announces royalty changes

source: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/nov/22/spotify-announces-royalty-changes

“I think 1,000 is too much,” says LA-based independent musician Brandon Washington, who goes by the stage name Ando San. “To an extent it’s true that there’s an oversaturation of artists on Spotify. But without them there would be no Spotify – the platform only exists because of #artists and #music.”
