A quotation from Russell, Bertrand

One of the symptoms of approaching nervous break-down is the belief that one’s work is terribly important, and that to take a holiday would bring all kinds of disaster.

Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) English mathematician and philosopher
Conquest of Happiness, Part 1, ch. 5 “Fatigue” (1930)

Some companies use #video #surveillance and have it analyzed by #AI. This gives you automated reports on the #performance of your #employees. At least the performance that the AI can record. Of course, this creates the exact opposite of what AI should be. Instead of relieving the burden on people, they become the new #slaves of a surveillance #technology. A dystopian scenario straight out of an #Orwell novel.

As the #study itself explains: "Many AI users spend a long time identifying how best to communicate with AI tools to get the desired answers or response. Organizations providing AI-assisted products must offer greater #education in order to truly showcase the potential of 'everyday AI'."

A quotation from Taleb, Nassim Nicholas

Work destroys your soul by stealthily invading your brain during the hours not officially spent working; be selective about professions.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb (b. 1960) Lebanese-American essayist, statistician, risk analyst, aphorist.

"Areas most affected by robotization saw stronger support for populist candidates like Donald #Trump in 2016," he noted. "The connection between career uncertainty and political realignment is clear: as people lose faith in their ability to advance economically, they seek alternative political solutions."

One year on, we know this: #Sweden’s trade unions are more than a match for Elon Musk

It is the first and only #strike against #Tesla anywhere in the world. And it has now become the longest-running strike in Sweden for a century. In April, six months into the dispute,

#Musk said: “Actually, I think the storm has passed on that front, I think things are in reasonably good shape in Sweden.” That was not true then, and it is not true now.

A quotation from Jerome, Jerome K.

It always does seem to me that I am doing more work than I should do. It is not that I object to the work, mind you; I like work: it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours. I love to keep it by me: the idea of getting rid of it nearly breaks my heart.

Jerome K. Jerome (1859-1927) English writer, humorist [Jerome Klapka Jerome]
Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), ch. 15 (1889)
