The Yellow Butterfly

I looked out of my window on this date and time. I saw a yellow butterfly fly by.

How delightful! The last time I saw a butterfly, of any kind, it was a rare event.
I wrote the date on a wall. That was years ago, and a painter painted over it.

There aren't any flowers downtown. I don't know what it was doing in the City,
perhaps searching, and finding nothing.
I write important dates on a wall so I don't lose them. But you see, they do get lost.
I'll write this Yellow Butterfly event on an index card, and file it under 'B'.

While chasing this butterfly around with my camera yesterday, I was reminded how I briefly amused myself with a homemade butterfly net. Hmmm ... I'm not sure it was homemade, that memory is a bit eroded, but I think I might have had one made of material from a nylon stocking. Do you think that we think in binary? I mean the messages our brain sends and receives must be that way.  Anyway, back on the track, this is a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio glaucus). I posted a photo a few days ago of one at a great distance on a green field.

I don't post all of the photos that I post here to my Pixels gallery, but I post the photos I like best.  Some don't make the cut.  I usually wait a couple of days and see how I feel about it then.

Newly emerged Black Swallowtail.

Spotted this beauty in the tall grass next to the pond, just as it was crawling out of its chrysalis.

Such a rewarding feeling to be able to trace this one's origins. I have a blurry photo of mom laying eggs on dill that I planted, and many photos of that colony of caterpillars as they grew up.

(There are several patches of dill around the garden, each hosting its own colony of Black Swallowtail caterpillars, lol)

Always so exciting & awe-inspiring every time I'm lucky enough to witness this. It just feels so miraculous!

First one this year!

(Side note: one of the best parts of spring is the arrival of each butterfly. I have a mental list of ~30 species or so that have visited my garden in the past. As each one arrives it's such a happy feeling - like "Ah, yes! There you are!")

They're always one of the first butters out for spring. Another would be the Cabbage White.

It's not all #birds on the #RoadTrip...we've seen some #butterflies too, including this Goatweed Leafwing seen just off the visitor center trail at the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site near Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
