Manifold Clock Tower, Camperdown, Victoria between 1897-1905ish. Image from here.
The original construction of the 31.4 metre high Gothic Revival style tower was funded by the pioneering Camperdown family, the Manifolds, in memory of Thomas Peter Manifold who died in a hunting accident in 1895 at the age of 32.
As you do.
the elms that line the street went in around the same time.
A man who knows the tower well
and the Robbie Burns Festival bc Camperdown is, as we all know, also home to the oldest statue of the poet himself. It was once perfectly fine amongst the Gardens until it was vandalised (what could they have against the Scots?!) so now it's in the Council Offices. i hope they're happy.
It's said that as settlement went west, the Irish went as far as Koroit and the Scots folk went on. this isnt entirely true, of course, but a nice enough yarn.

People in the #UK are easily confused, apparently. At least those in #London.

Clocks across the UK will go back an hour at 02:00 on Sunday, offering many people an extra 60 minutes in bed.

If you were expecting a spectacle of Big Ben's hands being wound back, you will be disappointed.

That is not going to happen - instead, it will be manually paused, with lights on the four clock faces turned off at 22:00 on Saturday.

The clock will be stopped and restarted at midnight. The lights will then come back on at 02:00, when the correct time will be displayed.

"This is so people looking up do not wonder why the hands are going round and get confused," said clock mechanic Alex Jeffrey.

I suspect it takes more than a few minutes to rewind Big Ben, and they don't want to risk embarrassment. I actually think a lot of people would enjoy seeing the hands going backwards.

My Way For OhBe.

This one is quite special. Bé van Weelden (OhBe), a good friend of me, recently past away. And tonight we honor him. Just an hour ago, Boudewijn Zwart, beiaardier (clock player) of the wester tower in amsterdam played 'My Way' in OhBe's honor. He would have loved it.

We all knew OhBe only digitally for ages. He didn't leave his house a lot. A dayly trip to the shop and another weekly trip to get some weed and that was it! But he was a remarkable presence on one of the first dutch 'experimental social sites' (happy-vpro) that came a few years before ello, or fb, or twitter or what have you.. It is a digital community that still exists, and where i am also still around, for my dutch friends. A true freethinker, on many controversial subjects (a lot about sex and love), and who could make it really uneasy for you if you hadn't done your homework ;-).

Even the beiaardier of the Wester was his friend. The tower played for him every day, as Be lived practically under it. So tonight everyone came digitally together, and we all listened to 'My Way' on the Wester, in Amsterdam, played in OhBe's honor. An honor that not many of us will get. I think it serves him well, and he really deserved it.

So goodbye Bé, you indeed did it your way!
