#construction

A couple of photos of some recently completed really, really peripheral #construction work for the rail line here in #Ottawa. This is some under-the-bridge stone work designed to prevent erosion in a place where plants don't normally grow.

Well this needs doing, so I guess I cannot complain. This #bike path was built almost twenty years ago, but right from completion something was not right. Even though the pathway is flat and level, it started oddly slumping, large cracks in the asphalt appeared and kept growing bigger and bigger. Even though it was built with about 4 inches of asphalt (10 cm) on top of 18 inches of gravel (45 cm), some of the crevices that appeared were over 2 ft (60 cm) deep. Many fillers and patches were applied, but they all cracked as well. Now they have torn the whole thing up and will hopefully fix it.

This was almost a surprise. The #construction contractor seems to have decided to lay some topsoil down along the #bike path in #Ottawa. I was just happy they finished the path itself and well can use it. Maybe next they will hydoseed it in time for winter?

...and here is our mid-week #bike path #construction update. Work has actually started, but from the south end, proceeding north. We biked down to check out the progress and found that the very south connection to the #Osgoode Link Pathway has been finished with its stone dust surface. They seem to be working north from there, so more photos as it gets completed.

This is it, the one last #bike path #construction project here in the south part of #Ottawa. According to the contractor this bike path should get its final stone dust surface applied this week, on top of the existing gravel. The pathway runs from the south part of the built-up area of the city all the way south to #Osgoode and is actually part of the Osgoode Link Pathway. I'll post updates if and when it gets finished.

Here it is, the final entry in my #construction series on the #bike path connection in south #Ottawa! It took many months, but the connection between the Osgoode Link Pathway and the Sawmill Creek Pathway is done, the #conefest and fences removed and officially opened. My #video was shot today and shows the pedestrian and cycling #bridge, the switchback under the bridge and around the west side to join the Sawmill Creek Pathway.

This connection is a real boon for #biking in this part of town, as #bikes can now skip #cycling on busy roads and having to wait at traffic lights, bypassing it all. It is faster, safer and should encourage more people to bike.

...and an update on our #bike path connector #construction here in #Ottawa. Things have been moving very slowly since the main asphalting was completed. I even talked to some workers who were sitting around with nothing to do. So some topsoil arrived and then it was hydroseeded to get it all anchored in place. Still waiting for final clean-up of cones and fences. Seems to take forever.

Here is an update on our #bike path connector #construction in south #Ottawa as of 1100 hrs this morning. The asphalt crew are about 50 feet from finishing the connection on the north side, although it looks like they will have to go over to the south side and put down about 30 ft of asphalt there to replace some removed yesterday. When that was originally laid down it was done wrong and resulted in water accumulation.

Okay here is the #Ottawa #bike path connector #construction update from sunset this evening. The bad news is that the asphalting did not get completed. The good news is that it is at least 2/3 done and should be easy to complete tomorrow. It looks like they took on the job of fixing some earlier asphalting that was not slopped right and resulted in some serious water accumulation.

More pictures tomorrow!

Here is an update on our #bike path connection #construction in south #Ottawa. Looks like everything is 100% set for asphalt! The base is all smooth and rolled, equipment ready, cones in place, landscaping done and even the under-bridge cement and stone masonry completed!

#Construction work on our #bike path and connection continues in south #Ottawa. Today's updates include "hydroseeding" the landscaping (spraying water, grass seed and that green fertilizer), ripping up more asphalt and final prep for what will soon hopefully be some new asphalt, scheduled for tomorrow. Or at least that was the last thing I had heard.

My next update should show something very black looking. Next question will be, "when will they open it for use?"
