Culinary inspiration and dietary counsel from the Curious Cures project – Cambridge University Library Special Collections https://specialcollections-blog.lib.cam.ac.uk/?p=26866

Have you ever wondered what food and drink medieval people enjoyed during Christmastime? In the Middle Ages, food was not only a source of sustenance and enjoyment, or a matter of correct religious practice: it was also considered essential for maintaining and restoring one’s health. Unsurprisingly then, recommendations for particular foods or dietary regimes appear in many of the 100 manuscripts in the Curious Cures project that we have digitised and catalogued so far.

The Magi, Wise Men, The Three Kings ~ Traveling to Bring Precious Gifts to Jesus ~ also known as ‘The Lamb of God.’
The Star of Bethlehem
The Birth of Lambs in ~ Spring

  • Pervasive throughout the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia until late antiquity and beyond, mágos (μάγος) was influenced by (and eventually displaced) Greek goēs (γόης), the older word for a practitioner of magic, to include astronomy/astrology, alchemy, and other forms of esoteric knowledge. This association was in turn the product of the Hellenistic fascination for Pseudo-Zoroaster, who was perceived by the Greeks to be the Chaldean founder of the Magi and inventor of both astrology and magic, a meaning that still survives in the modern-day words “magic” and “magician”.
  • In the Gospel of Matthew, “μάγοι” (magoi) from the east do homage to Jesus, a child and the transliterated plural “magi” entered English from Latin in this context around 1200 (this particular use is also commonly rendered in English as “kings” and more often in recent times as “wise men”).The singular “magus” appears considerably later, when it was borrowed from Old French in the late 14th century with the meaning magician. -Wikipedia

on the website they state that the mod "ensures that the #gender and #sexuality of world NPCs match #medieval status quo" and I was not even slightly surprised to see that instead of just removing the references to Nocturne being trans they instead decided that the easier thing to do (it's not easier) was to turn her into a man who tried to be a #wioman and then hated it... gee I wonder why they'd do that?and imagine my surprise when I saw that they had no mods that removed any of the magical aspects and creatures in the game in order to make it match "medieval status quo."it's almost as if they don't care about realism and it's actually just about their hatred of #queer people, because if they did care about realism they'd be well aware that we have existed since the dawn of time.

Honey Bees

Yesterday a honey bee visited me inside my kitchen.
The window was open to let in some fresh air.
I was so thrilled to see it - here in downtown, which is void of most all life.
A bee finds me, not matter what room I’m in.
This singular bee visit happens once a year. It’s a sign of the changing weather.
It’s scouting. Seeking a warm place.
Oh! I wish I had a nice hive for it to come and live with me.
All bees would be welcomed. I’ve ceased to be afraid of a sting.
I always have a jar of honey, and remember them each day.
