One of the best-ever albums, and here is a "new Beatles track" - from the newly released Special Edition, of Revolver.

Got To Get You Into My Life (First Version / Take 5)

Rolling Stone describes this as an entirely different perspective on this and other well-known songs. Lots of chemistry, and experimentation, plus clowning and fun. As they describe, a time The Beatles were on top of the world and in their own dimension.

Happy Autumn Solstice - 22SEP22

Many are hoping still for some pleasant weather but the solstice will do solstice. Some worship it, some dread it. Seasons change.

Now this here... It is about to be perfectly aligned, exactly.
Just like this symmetrical date. Happy Solstice Autumn 22.
22AUT22

This from a few weeks earlier, in the rain. Look straight up the middle; that is where the sun would be rising if you could see it!

Well, autumn lovers are in luck, as your solstice is arriving on Platform B.

Meanwhile, if you'll excuse me, I must be on my way....

One or two tabs keep taking me back to the Dead!

To clarify: browser tabs! Though one or two tabs of anything might do it.
I've only recently re-listened to some long-ago favorites, and long-form gems I've not heard for years.
Realizing half the social universe was not born yet much less at this concert, still... it may be new to some, refreshing to old friends.

Touch Of Grey / Greatest Story Ever Told - Grateful Dead Live, July 1990

A sort of snappy song which caught my free ear just now. Some interesting history in the description.

A good day for reflecting on things,

Under Eternity

This is cued up to the refrain, "Under eternity", which was the topic of a conversation or two today, between some photos of medieval churches, some Grateful Dead, and not least of all, the funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.

It's a long, trippy Dead song.... scroll back to hear the whole thing. But this refrain... have not heard in years and years. Eerie...>

Don't mind me, I'm only sleeping.... 🎶 💤

Found this sleeper hiding on a long-open tab /TMI

Of note, this was shared in 2017, before the slew of new archival footage appeared in 2022, via the film Get Back.
This is from a much earlier time, 1966 - working on the transformational "Revolver" - as their fame and song catalog were exploding, along with creativity and chemistry.Even in this period, a glimpse into their rehearsal and first takes truly captures their genius.

The Beatles Unplugged: Rehearsing "I'm Only Sleeping"

The track is labeled "acoustic guitar" but it sounds to me like 'the boys' are playing on their electric guitars, "unplugged".
The harmonies and magic are still amazing to behold, especially the new takes most of us haven't heard endlessly.

Flow of consciousness...
I saw Seth Meyers make a joke about Rudy (Giuliani) calling himself Ruby .... and this song popped into my head.

Ruby Baby...

Really loved this song and album, as a vinyl LP track from super studio musicians with a super recording. "Headphone music". 🎧
No, not Ruby Tuesday.Another great Ruby song! (But you can't fool me, it's almost or already Thursday!) Ah, Ruby ruby...

For Jimi Hendrix Fans -
Beatles fans got an amazing 8 hour slice of real life - near the end of Beatles (Get Back!)

For Hendrix fans, there's this. Only 31:35 long, and a week before he died! Here's a clean recording of Hendrix on his reputation, playing, song-writing, etc., with some excellent questions and context from the interviewer. Just re-watched. 🏆

Just for you... I cued up a section of it where Hendrix had just finished talking about psychadelia, his image, and his plans to incorporate classical music seamlessly into his music... and here is his vision, pre-DVD's, LCD TVs, Internet, etc., of the future home entertainment center, as Beta/VHS was the state of the art at the time. Sounds a lot like where we are today! Then he talks about the ideals and economics of large rock festivals... and local concerts. (Free is best) And "luxury". That's the tail - cued up here, but you can wind it back to the beginning for the full thing. I just finished Get Back. This was like the icing on the (1969) cake. You're welcome! :))

Ear-worm of the day.... #JethroTull

She said she was a dancer.....

She said she was a dancer.
If I believed it, it was my business.
She surely knew a thing or two about control.
Next to the bar we hit the samovar.
She almost slipped right through my fingers.
It was snowing outside and in her soul.
Well, maybe you're a dancer,
And maybe I'm the King of Old Siam.

I thought it through...best to let the illusion roll.
I wouldn't say I've never heard that tale before,
my frozen little señorita,
But if your dream is good,
Why not share it when the nights are cold?

Hey Moscow, what's your story?
Lady, take your time, don't hurry.
Maybe a student of the agricultural plan.
Hey Moscow, what's your name?
If you don't want to say, don't worry.
It would probably be hard for me to make it scan.

With her phrase book in her silk soft hand
She spoke in riddles while the vodka listened.
I said, "Let me look up love, if I might be so bold."
She was the nearest thing to Rock and Roll
That side of the velvet curtain
That separates eastern steel from western gold.

Hey Miss Moscow, what's your story?
You needn't speak aloud, just whisper.
Am I just the closest thing to an Englishman?
You've seen me in your magazines,
Or maybe on state television.
I'm your Pepsi-Cola,
But you won't take me out the can.

She said she was a dancer, so she did.
She said she was a dancer.
If I believed it, it was my business.
It felt like a merry dance that I was being led.
So I stole one kiss.
It was a near miss.
She looked at me like I was Jack the Ripper.
She leaned in close. "Goodnight, " was all she said.
So I took myself off to bed.

Many will soon be traveling (U.S. Thanksgiving Day into Christmas time).... for many it is the first time in 1-2 years to see family. Or to escape. Or reunite. Or grieve. 2021 - in lockdown and crazy times - has been a challenge - and stressful on everyone. Time to

Ramble On

For me too (something I am thankful for) it's time to "hit the road, Jack!". And for many others, travel to anywhere now is a beautiful thing. I'll be on & off-grid (no wifi/Internet in places) so posts a bit less but photos and music finds will trickle back soon.

Wishing an early
Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah!. (and of course other seasonal holidays as may be yours)

The NY Times has a featureI* on the forthcoming new album by Lindsey Buckingham, who was one half of the musical and personal
chemistry which bubbled into the first and only album, Buckingham Nicks. Never a commercial success but it is an amazing album.

The album chronicles the life and musical chemistry of the two in the title. Things did not work out well for the couple, with the Times applauding Buckingham for getting up yet again and re-appearing like. a phoenix. I can't say more, article is paywalled.

Many speculate or gossip, but my take is that the relationship was complex & passionate, and maybe... competitive. +/=

Races Are Won

Races are won, some people win and some people always have to lose

Full lyrics below, and just a bit more context & perspective. Oh, and Stevie Nicks wrote it. ;)

Those who follow music/rock/vintage history may know that Fleetwood Mac had it's first huge hits in a long time (ever?) - like Rhiannon - when Stevie and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, who had played out its 60s Mayall/ BluesBreakers/ British rock repertoire Anyone who saw them towards their end (which may have been imminent), knows that they were de-energized, but suddenly reborn & super-infused by Buckingham & Nicks.

But it did mot end well personally, at least for Lindsey, the Times characterizing him as picking himself up once again. He's back.

I think this here is a masterwork song that captures the personal & musical chemistry and I was in the music/sound biz for a while and remember first hearing this album on good sound speakers &/or headphones and getting goose bumps. It's quite an opus.

LYRICS

So many different kind of people
Trying to be the same
"No way," baby
He said
Baby there's no way
If we could start again
Well who knows
Have we really changed
Some say we have
Reflecting our past
Who can say
Who can say

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Tell me I'm wrong
I can't believe you
We tried a thousand times before
Rained on reasons
Kept us believing
That there might still be more

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
