Ear-worm of the day.... #JethroTull

She said she was a dancer.....

She said she was a dancer.
If I believed it, it was my business.
She surely knew a thing or two about control.
Next to the bar we hit the samovar.
She almost slipped right through my fingers.
It was snowing outside and in her soul.
Well, maybe you're a dancer,
And maybe I'm the King of Old Siam.

I thought it through...best to let the illusion roll.
I wouldn't say I've never heard that tale before,
my frozen little señorita,
But if your dream is good,
Why not share it when the nights are cold?

Hey Moscow, what's your story?
Lady, take your time, don't hurry.
Maybe a student of the agricultural plan.
Hey Moscow, what's your name?
If you don't want to say, don't worry.
It would probably be hard for me to make it scan.

With her phrase book in her silk soft hand
She spoke in riddles while the vodka listened.
I said, "Let me look up love, if I might be so bold."
She was the nearest thing to Rock and Roll
That side of the velvet curtain
That separates eastern steel from western gold.

Hey Miss Moscow, what's your story?
You needn't speak aloud, just whisper.
Am I just the closest thing to an Englishman?
You've seen me in your magazines,
Or maybe on state television.
I'm your Pepsi-Cola,
But you won't take me out the can.

She said she was a dancer, so she did.
She said she was a dancer.
If I believed it, it was my business.
It felt like a merry dance that I was being led.
So I stole one kiss.
It was a near miss.
She looked at me like I was Jack the Ripper.
She leaned in close. "Goodnight, " was all she said.
So I took myself off to bed.

Many will soon be traveling (U.S. Thanksgiving Day into Christmas time).... for many it is the first time in 1-2 years to see family. Or to escape. Or reunite. Or grieve. 2021 - in lockdown and crazy times - has been a challenge - and stressful on everyone. Time to

Ramble On

For me too (something I am thankful for) it's time to "hit the road, Jack!". And for many others, travel to anywhere now is a beautiful thing. I'll be on & off-grid (no wifi/Internet in places) so posts a bit less but photos and music finds will trickle back soon.

Wishing an early
Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas/Chanukah!. (and of course other seasonal holidays as may be yours)

The NY Times has a featureI* on the forthcoming new album by Lindsey Buckingham, who was one half of the musical and personal
chemistry which bubbled into the first and only album, Buckingham Nicks. Never a commercial success but it is an amazing album.

The album chronicles the life and musical chemistry of the two in the title. Things did not work out well for the couple, with the Times applauding Buckingham for getting up yet again and re-appearing like. a phoenix. I can't say more, article is paywalled.

Many speculate or gossip, but my take is that the relationship was complex & passionate, and maybe... competitive. +/=

Races Are Won

Races are won, some people win and some people always have to lose

Full lyrics below, and just a bit more context & perspective. Oh, and Stevie Nicks wrote it. ;)

Those who follow music/rock/vintage history may know that Fleetwood Mac had it's first huge hits in a long time (ever?) - like Rhiannon - when Stevie and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac, who had played out its 60s Mayall/ BluesBreakers/ British rock repertoire Anyone who saw them towards their end (which may have been imminent), knows that they were de-energized, but suddenly reborn & super-infused by Buckingham & Nicks.

But it did mot end well personally, at least for Lindsey, the Times characterizing him as picking himself up once again. He's back.

I think this here is a masterwork song that captures the personal & musical chemistry and I was in the music/sound biz for a while and remember first hearing this album on good sound speakers &/or headphones and getting goose bumps. It's quite an opus.

LYRICS

So many different kind of people
Trying to be the same
"No way," baby
He said
Baby there's no way
If we could start again
Well who knows
Have we really changed
Some say we have
Reflecting our past
Who can say
Who can say

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Tell me I'm wrong
I can't believe you
We tried a thousand times before
Rained on reasons
Kept us believing
That there might still be more

Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose

George Harrison, R.I.P., described this game of pain quite well.
These days it's mostly politics &/or ego; but the context then was The Beatles

"Sue Me, Sue You Blues"

You serve me
And I'll serve you
Swing your partners, all get screwed
Bring your lawyer
And I'll bring mine
Get together, and we could have a bad time
It's affidavit swearing time
Sign it on the dotted line
Hold your Bible in your hand
Now all that's left is to
Find yourself a new band
We're gonna play the sue me, sue
You blues
We're gonna play the sue me, sue
You blues
Hold the block on money flow
Move it into joint escrow
Court receiver, laughs, and thrills
But in the end we just pay those
Lawyers their bills
When you serve me
And I serve you
Swing your partners, all get screwed
Bring your lawyer
And I'll bring mine
Get together, and we could have
A bad time
We're gonna play the sue me, sue
You blues
I'm tired of playing the

One more, from the era spanning "Summer of Love" through Woodstock. This is a recent find I don't recall seeing before - the exact concert performance - but it's a good one.

Traffic: Dear Mr. Fantasy - Live @ Santa Monica, Ca., 1972

This has to be one of my all-time favorites. I played it, sang it, listened to it 1000's of times. I don't much love the theme ("I shot my baby") - but I give a pass, for artistry (Hendrix/"Hey Joe" too). This song here was muy simpático with peace, love, & unicorns.
