Final bit of Tull for now...
Here is the 'earworm' which stayed with me after the Tull concert Wednesday... (not my crude recording; studio version)

Mine is the Mountain

Some commented on Anderson's aged voice (well, yeah...)
But he sings in tune still, if not leaping for high notes.

Here this is him singing falsetto, reminding me a baroque performance I saw (and posted) some time ago.

This one is a non-rocker. But they did a very good, stylized and extended "Aqualung" this week (might have an OK recording).
In addition to the more straight-ahead "Locomotive Breath", which I posted.

So... Onto the weekend. Have a good one!

Lyrics

Mine is the power and mine is the glory
Mine is the mountain up which you tread
Give me bold questions, give me good reason
Tell me you love me, fear all I have said
Don't imitate me, don't forsake me
In images silver, in idols of gold
Don't make me jealous, don't make me angry
Don't ever leave me out in the cold
(Mine is the mountain)
Bring all your pomp
Precious jewels and your finеry
Build me safe haven for tablеts of stone
To live through the ages to scold and to guide you
Threaten, cajole you, and cut to the bone
(Mine in the mountain)
I'm no pushover lamb, no gentle provider
Vengeance, retribution are my middle names
I can make a cadaver of your women, your firstborn
With a snap of a finger, of salt and of flame
Matty and Lucas may bring something softer
Gentle in word and gentle in deed
But you who ignore these things that are written
Will define the story your children will read
(Mine is the mountain)
Bring all your pomp
Precious jewels and your finery
Build me safe haven for tablets of stone
To live through the ages to scold and to guide you
Threaten cajole you and cut to the bone
(Mine is the mountain)
So think of me fondly in spite of the raging
The ranting, the raving, the threatening tone
For I am the father, the power and the glory
And now, for God's sake, kindly leave me alone
(Mine is the mountain)

Continuing with Jethro Tull....

Early, but... 'here & now', so...

Jethro Tull Christmas Album CD2 Christmas Live At St Brides 2008

Listening now to some of the muddy recording I have of this week's concert, and trying to ID a few of the newer songs....
One continues t be an ear-worm, an eery song (like the two power chords of "My God" in slo-mo, and he sings this one phrase, in a minor key, in falsetto.... Reminds me of a Baroque singer (male) who did that, I think I may have posted actually...

So Ian Anderson said the song I liked was on his Christmas album... but... there's more than one and I don't see what sounded like the song. But I found this, not sure I've heard before, but it taps into the #JethroTull country DNA...

So while I have it, here's the whole Christmas album.... a bit early, but.. hey, I'm on Jethro Tull time. And compared to the concert recording I got on my phone.... I'm loving the clean audio here, from a live concert. 🎶

Here's a little taste of Jethro Tull - last night.

Bourée - Jethro Tull (Live)

Please forgive/forget the video part, it's just the view of nothing as my phone sat on my lap (could not point & shoot )

Not terrible audio, apologies for the variability (people jostling past me etc.) Listening now to this, worth a listen... volume up.

So, I went to the Beacon Theater box office to see if I could find any decent (semi-affordable?) tickets for the Jethro Tull "70" concert in November.... Short version: No tickets left in-house, only VERY expensive 'platinum' tickets online... But he said that if I check the week before, some of the big block-buyers return what they can't use. I live nearby, so... We'll see.....

We'll see...

A lunchtime diversion - late 60's/early 70's - FM Radio transitions and segues - A baker's 1/2 Dozen Faves 🎶

It began with the posting of a Fat Mattress (1969) song, which rang a bell. Fat Mattress has a tiny niche-of-honor in my memories and in music history. To me it was sort of a cross between early Jethro Tull (This Was) and Traffic, with the backbone of Noel Redding here.

The band - not coincidentally?! - also featured Chris Wood (Traffic) on the track "All Night Drinker", which makes perfect sense as another foggy memory is seeing Chris Wood fall off the stage, drunken... Oh, and Martin Barre (Tull) was in the band briefly, too.

This said, seeing the image of the album (which I have on vinyl, without the song which was posted - UK version) - set off many associations to the album and its context (1969).

And that brings me to an immediate short-list of tracks comprising 1/2 dozen of my most beloved songs for radio segues between or into/out of sets.

From the 1969 Fat Mattress album (in my 3rd hand as I type)...

"I saw a bird, flying in the sky... He looked at me, I wonder why..."

Pretty depressing actually, maybe reflecting Neil Redding's situation at the time, booted from Hendrix.
He doesn't even play the bass on this track (plays guitar).

"Context and Perspective!"

But before I forget, one more to add to this 'baker's 1/2 dozen' of 'easy listening' FM/LP fare, and favorite segues:
