The illuminated St. John's Bible is an amazing project - 12 years of hand-work by experts

#art #bible #scripture

It took 12 years of delicate craftsmanship to make The Saint John’s Bible — the first hand-written Bible in over 500 years.
The project was spearheaded by Donald Jackson, former Senior Scribe and Illuminator at the Crown Office in the House of Lords. As the scribe to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Jackson was responsible for the creation of official state documents and was later named Master of the 600-year-old Guild of Scriveners of the city of London.
Such profound expertise and dedication can be seen in the calligraphy and illuminations gracing the pages of The Saint John’s Bible.

I have seen it in person... and it is available in reproduction volumes. Learn more here: https://saintjohnsbible.org/Home/Index or visit the Library of Congress online exhibit at https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/stjohnsbible/stjohns-exhibit.html

SUNDAY
Ecclesiastes. Chapter 1. 9-11

  1. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
  2. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
  3. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

We always look forward to our enlightening chats with good Alfacast compatriot, #MartyLeeds, and this one will definitely be special. The ever-present stellar canopy just overhead has quite a story to tell, and master-decoder Marty Leeds is our go-to man to decipher what the #Sky #Clock is trying to tell us.
Marty's new book, #Scripture in the #Stars does just that, as it takes the reader through a journey of the #Bible like they have never had before. Linking the stories of the Good Book to the #constellations in our night skies, this book unveils the deeply #spiritual and #celestial meanings of the #ancient biblical tales.

Every chapter uncovers for the reader, step by step, how the stories of the Old and New Testament are found in the celestial characters, symbols and animals above our heads. Scripture in the Stars is easy to read, full of large graphics for reference and study, and is a must have for any serious religious student.

Past interviews with Marty have traversed through a diversity of subject matter from Gnostic Christianity, to the mathematics, symbolism, astrology, and mysticism encoded within the Bible.

Marty always brings it, and this episode is one not to be missed!

#When were the #Psalms #Written?

Key #Scripture: #Psalm 117:1-2 Praise the Lord, all Nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is His steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!

The Psalms span a time frame of about a 1000 years. Most of the Psalms were written between 1010 and 930 BC during the time of #David and his son #Solomon. The oldest psalm, Psalm 90, was written by #Moses in approximately 1500 BC, when the first generation of Israelites were dying in the wilderness after the #Exodus. #Ezra was most likely the final editor of the work in 450 BC in celebration and thanksgiving after returning the exiles to Jerusalem.

The Odes of Solomon: Mystical Songs from the Time of Jesus, by James Bean: https://sant-mat.medium.com/the-odes-of-solomon-mystical-songs-from-the-time-of-jesus-by-james-bean-bb994ab10893

This mysterious collection of ancient psalms known as “the Odes of Solomon,” written in Syriac, a dialect of the Aramaic language, has been described as “some of the most beautiful songs of peace and joy that the world possesses.” These mystical poems and prayers remind me of Rumi and other Sufi poets. Sometimes I refer to the Odes as ‘the would-be book of New Testament psalms’, and I find the Odes to be a very spiritual book, one of the very best examples of an apocryphal writing that got misnamed, misfiled and misplaced somewhere along the way...

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy

We all like to think that we don't judge other people, and that we have mercy for others.
If we're honest with ourselves, we probably do judge at times.
I'm so grateful today that Jesus Christ not only helps us to have mercy for other people, but He has mercy for us too. If you find yourself being judgmental today, remember God's mercy.
