the thing about WikiLeaks they bring out the information which is in the public interest but it's not in the interest of the government
for example governments all governments do all sorts of funny things than the intelligence and if everybody knew what they were doing there would be a much greater control over them because they wouldn't be able to get away with what they want - so I've always supported the idea of Freedom of Information and open information and WikiLeaks have a part to play in that and they still frighten big governments because governments don't want everyone to know what they're doing

The Dangers of Pessimism

well I think the right-wing are trying to encourage people to lose your confidence in voting they say to people they're all the same and so on and they're trying to spread pessimism and pessimism is an instrument of the right because if can persuade people to be pessimistic they won't make the effort they won't try and if people don't try you'll never succeed so you have to treat pessimism not as an objective truth but as a deliberate policy designed to discourage people from exercising their rights to decide how we're governed

you have to be careful about pessimism, pessisimism is deliberately designed to take away hope from people and if you take away hope from people then nothing will ever change
