"Mahmoud Alsaqqa, who is #Oxfam’s food security and livelihood lead in Gaza, warned that some Palestinians are 'starving to death' from hunger in northern Gaza and more people will die in the coming days.

"Aid agencies say about 96 percent of Gaza’s population is facing high levels of food shortages. According to #UNICEF, nine out of 10 children lack the nutrition they need for growth and development. At least 37 children have died of #malnutrition or #dehydration in a year of war."

PS. It is not "violence" it is Israeli criminal attacks.

#UNICEF has estimated that at least 4,000 children in Gaza are missing, 17,000 are unaccompanied or separated from their parents, and 700,000 have been forcibly displaced several times since the start of the war.

“It’s been a completely catastrophic humanitarian crisis for children over the last 10 months. They’ve seen and been through everything that a child should not have to go through at that age, or any age for that matter, in terms of scale of conflict, in terms of loss of their homes, of the infrastructure that is so vital for their daily lives and livelihoods.”

I spent time with people who had what in Iran we used to call "shell shock", adult soldiers who had nerve and internal injuries because of explosions close to them, not to mention the psychological impact of living through such nightmare. Can't imagine how it is for children, as young as 4 years old to have lived through such horror, plus the loss of the parents, siblings and in a lot of times, the entire family.

War is hell, for everyone, specially civilians, but for innocent children who are caught in the middle of something they had no role in creating or ability to change is so much worse. Reading some of the comments on FB page of Unicef on this post made me really sick.
I understand people having strong feeling about people in other countries, even other religions and race (even thought I hate it), but making fun of suffering of children, no matter who they are is just something I do not understand. One must be really evil to think that suffering of an innocent 4 year old is anything but tragic and unacceptable. But, sadly, we are in the new world of post 9/11, trumpism and post october 7, inhumanity and hate is no longer hidden or condemned, it is openly said and shared with pride and lots of likes and support from similar people who lack humanity and empathy.

UNICEF: Last week saw the bombing of three sites for internally displaced people in Goma, North Kivu, in eastern DR #Congo.

Dozens of people were injured or killed, mainly women and children.
Ongoing violence in the country is putting millions of children at risk.
#UNICEF and #UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency condemn the bombings and will continue our work on the ground to provide impacted families with urgent support.

380,000 children escaping war in #Sudan have been forced to seek refuge in neighbouring eastern #Chad.

Among other challenges, they are also vulnerable to deadly diseases, often caused by the lack of safe water and basic hygiene.

#UNICEF is providing clean water and health services to families. However, what children urgently need is peace.

The Global Education Cluster, jointly led by #UNICEF and Save the Children, issued a report detailing the Israeli army's demolition of schools in #Gaza.

The data shows that more than 70% of Gaza's #schools have been destroyed or targeted by Israel, rendering it unfeasible for children to resume education in the near future.

#UNICEF: #Children in the #Gaza Strip face a deadly triple threat to their lives, as cases of diseases rise, nutrition plummets and the escalation in hostilities approaches its fourteenth week.

The world cannot stand by and watch. The violence and the suffering of children must stop.

Thousands of children have already died from the #violence, while living conditions for children continue to rapidly deteriorate, with increasing cases of diarrhea and rising food poverty among children, raising the risk of mounting child deaths.

“Children in Gaza are caught in a nightmare that worsens with every passing day,” said Catherine Russell, UNICEF’s Executive Director. “Children and families in the Gaza Strip continue to be killed and injured in the fighting, and their lives are increasingly at risk from preventable diseases and lack of food and water. All children and civilians must be protected from violence and have access to basic services and supplies.”

Cases of diarrhea in children under five years of age rose from 48,000 to 71,000 in just one week starting 17 December, equivalent to 3,200 new cases of diarrhea per day. The significant increase in cases in such a short timeframe is a strong indication that child health in the Gaza Strip is fast deteriorating. Before the escalation in hostilities, an average of 2,000 cases of diarrhea in children under five were recorded per month. This recent climb represents a staggering increase of about 2000 per cent.
