Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan #Hospital

Yesterday was one of the darkest, most difficult and bloodiest days at Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The warplanes targeted the hospital and hit more than eight buildings in its vicinity. One of these buildings was inhabited, and some people came out of it with their bodies on fire, some of whom were tragically martyred. This brutal bombardment resulted in the martyrdom of eight individuals, and there are still children trapped under the charred rubble.

The situation became critical when bulldozers and tanks entered the area and started firing directly at the hospital from all directions.

The intensive care unit, located on the western side, was directly targeted. The tank shells hit the intensive care unit, igniting a fire that forced us to evacuate the patients quickly. Miraculously, we managed to evacuate the oxygen cylinders of the emergency room.

Unfortunately, the isolation ward was completely burned.

Thank God, we were able to put out the fire with our bare hands, as there were no fire extinguishers available and the water supply was cut off. We used blankets and our bare hands to control the fire.

The scene inside the ICU was like a war zone, with bullets piercing the equipment, walls and windows.

It is incomprehensible why we are being targeted in such a brutal way.

We have been addressing the world for over 75 days, and yet nothing is being done. This indifference is allowing the occupiers to escalate their violence, and I fear that they will continue to attack other departments, which could lead to the destruction of the hospital before the eyes of the world. Unfortunately, this is our reality.

We currently have 71 injuries, and this is the only #ICU in northern #Gaza.

End Private Healthcare Deaths: Invest in the NHS

BBC Panorama has revealed NHS patients have died following operations at private hospitals.

Over the past few years, the government has sent NHS patients to get operations in private hospitals, funded by taxpayers. Labour backs this policy.

The vast majority of private hospitals do not have intensive care units, meaning that if patients develop complications there, their lives are in danger.

Dear Wes Streeting and Victoria Atkins, stop putting NHS patients at risk. Instead of outsourcing operations to private hospitals, invest in the NHS so that it can treat all patients.

'Your child will wait for another child to die.' Amid #Covid-19 surge, #Dallas County has no pediatric #ICU beds left, county judge says

Source: https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/13/us/dallas-county-no-pediatric-icu-beds-left/index.html

"That means if your child's in a car wreck, if your child has a congenital heart defect or something and needs an ICU bed, or more likely if they have Covid and need an ICU bed, we don't have one. Your child will wait for another child to die," Jenkins said. "Your child will just not get on the ventilator, your child will be CareFlighted to Temple or #Oklahoma City or wherever we can find them a bed, but they won't be getting one here unless one clears."

Texas is also in the news

ICU

  • Gov. Greg Abbott asked the Texas Hospital Association earlier this week to voluntarily postpone elective medical procedures to free up ICU beds.
  • The state is also bringing in 2,500 out-of-state medical personnel to relieve exhausted doctors and nurses.
  • The surge in cases comes as Abbott wages war against local school and government officials who have reinstituted mask mandates.
