The 18th #Nakshatra: #JYESHTHA.

The four quarters are ruled by:

Guru (Jupiter) - the 1st quarter,
Shani (Saturn) - the 2nd quarter,
Shani (Saturn) - the 3rd quarter,
and Guru (Jupiter) - the 4th quarter.

Other aspects of this Nakshatra:
The Purushardha (life's vector or motivation) is #Artha.
Totem animal is #Hare or #Deer (male).
Symbols: an #earring or an #umbrella.
Devata (Deity) - #Indra.
Dosha - #Vata.

This is 18th Nakshatra of the zodiac, spanning form 16°-20' to 30°-00' in the sign Vrshchika. This Nakshatra is owned by the planet of intelligence #Buddha ( #Mercury), while the fiery Mangala ( #Mars) owns this sign. As a result, people born in this Nakshatra possess a mix of the qualities of Buddha (Mercury) and Mangala (Mars). While they are aggressive to the core, their aggressiveness is more on the intellectual level. A good lawyer or politician with excellent oratory skills, and ever ready to pounce on his opponents with strong verbal attacks is a peculiarity of this Nakshatra.

Jyeshtha born have excellent physical stamina and a good physical appearance. But these people are rather soft when it comes to dealing with some really difficult problems in their life, where a firm decision has to be made and implemented with a firm mind. They are much talkative, hence are unable to keep a secret a secret. To get on well with others, they should try to control their temper and be ready to accept the advice given by others. These qualities make them appear like a very proud person, but the facts are actually different.

The key to success in life for Jyeshtha born is to control their behavior in every walk of life. This includes their eating habits as well. If this happens, their sincere nature will take them to the most senior position available in the hierarchy where they work. These people are also not very clear about the profession they want to pursue for life, and hence keep on changing jobs or the lines of business often. This is the outcome of the dual nature of the planet Buddha (Mercury), the ruler of this Nakshatra.

In case of family relations, these people are not very lucky. While they do not get any special help form their parents, their spouse is also very dominating, due to which, they cannot take for granted the support of their spouse in whatever they undertake.

Male Natives

  1. Physical features: He has a very good physical stamina and attractive countenance. It may be noticed that most of the persons born in this Nakshatra have defective teeth, either the teeth will have gap between them or bulged out. If these two defects are not there, then the color of teeth will be different.

Unless he keeps it open to others he feels that something is missing in his life and good sleep is disturbed. Several persons born in this Nakshatra have been coming to me and complaining that they do get good sleep. When the reason for such a state of affairs was inquired into, they have all admitted that a peculiar vibration takes place in their mind and unless the reason for that vibration is leaked out they cannot rest. So they always wait for the next morning and try to tell these things to the persons who meet them first.

He is hot tempered and obstinate. Due to this temperament he often faces a lot of problems and forms a wall to his progress in life. He never accepts the advice given by others+, whereas he acts upon his own consciousness.

For the sake of principle he takes on the spot decisions on several matters without seeing the opportunity and circumstances, which ultimately leads him to a precarious state. Due to the condition of the hot temperament he will not hesitate to cause problems and troubles even to those who rendered him all possible help when required and even ill treat those persons. He cannot expect any help from the relations. Outwardly, he appears to be very proud but when we go closer to him it will be evident that it is just the opposite.

He must keep away all drugs and alcohol as he is prone to go out of control quickly which will spoil his hard earned reputation, put an hindrance to his profession as also in the family life.

  1. Education, sources of earning/profession: He will leave his home at a very young age and seek refuge in a distant place. He has to earn his bread strictly due to his own effort. Because of the sincerity shown in the work field he normally come up quickly in any position he holds. Constant change of jobs or professions are noticed.

Period up to 50 years of age will be full of trial and any stability in his life starts thereafter only. Period from 18 years of age to 26 years of age will be period of maximum troublesome. During this period he will have to undergo financial problems, mental agony as also in some case mental disarrangement. Period from 27th years of age will be a beginning of progress towards stability, even though the pace will be very slow up to his 50 years of age.

  1. Family life: He cannot expect any benefit from his mother and co-borns, whereas they become his enemies. He is generally disliked by his near and dear ones. This is mainly due to the fact that Jyeshta born likes to keep a separate identity and existence.

His spouse will always have an upper hand and resist tooth and nail the activity of intoxication. While his married life will be completely harmonious and enjoy to the maximum occasional health problems of his wife or separation due to some unavoidable circumstances will greatly affect the mind of the native.

  1. Health: Frequent temperature, dysentery, cough and cold, asthmatic attach and stomach problems are the possible diseases. It is noticed that these people are affected with one or the other health problems frequently. He may also have severe pain in arms and shoulders.

Female Natives

Females born in this Nakshatra will also enjoy more or less the same results mentioned for the male natives of Jyeshta Nakshatra. In addition, they will enjoy the following results:

  1. Physical appearance: Well proportioned and muscular body with long arms. Height above average. Broad face, short and curly hair.

  2. Character and general events: She has strong emotions, passionate jealousies and deeper loves. She is intelligent, thoughtful, perceptive. She is more eager to know what others talk of her. Although her natural inherent feminine character will not allow her to appear domineering, she is good organizer.

  3. Education, sources of income/profession: She is active in sports. Medium academic education. She is often contended herself in the home, seeking to enrich her own life through her husband's success. Hence most of the Jyeshta born females are not involved in any earning job.

  4. Family life: She lacks marital harmony and loss of children is also noticed. In some cases it has been that such native is subject to harassment by in-laws and several concoctions stories are framed against her. She has to be very very careful while dealing with her neighbors and relatives as they are persons who put poison in her life. A worry-less period is very rarely available for her. Since she makes her own rule to be abide by her children, she will be neglected by her children as a vengeance to what she has done to them during childhood.

  5. Health: Her health will not be so good. It is seen that some of the females born in this Nakshatra suffer from disorder of the uterus. She is also prone to prostrate gland enlargement or pain in arms and shoulders.

#Jyeshtha #Nakshatra is the 18th Nakshatra as per Hindu #astrology in Scorpionis #constellation.

Jyeshta is ruled by #Indra, the ruler of the Gods. Indra is praised as the highest god in 250 hymns of the #Rigveda

  1. Now I shall proclaim the heroic deeds of Indra, those foremost deeds that the mace-wielder performed: He smashed the serpent. He bowed out the waters. He split the bellies of the mountains.
  2. He smashed the serpent resting on the mountain — for him Tvaṣṭar had fashioned the resounding [sunlike] mace. Like bellowing milk-cows, streaming out, the waters went straight down to the sea.

— Rigveda, 1.32.1–2

In the Brahmavaivarta Purana, Indra defeats Vritra and releases the waters. In post-Vedic texts, Indra’s importance declines, and he evolves into a minor deity in comparison to others in the Hindu pantheon, such as Shiva, Vishnu, or Devi. In Puranic mention, he becomes a source of nuisance rains sent out of anger with an intent to hurt mankind and Krishna as an avatar of Vishnu, comes to the rescue by lifting Mount Govardhana on his fingertip, and letting mankind shelter under the mountain till Indra exhausts his anger and relents. In the post-Vedic period, he rides a large, four-tusked white elephant called Airavata. The Sangam literature also describes Indhira Vizha (festival for Indra), the festival for want of rain, celebrated for one full month starting from the full moon in Chitrai and aspects of Indra as a deity are cognate to other Indo-European gods; they are thunder gods such as Thor, Perun, and Zeus who share parts of his heroic mythologies, act as king of gods, and all are linked to “rain and thunder”.

The second Nakshatra arrangement in #Jyeshtha completes a full cycle beginning with #Magha.

From 16:40 to 30 degrees of #Scorpio, Mercury rules this #constellation. The #Vishnu is the constellation’s ruling deity, while the Ganges River, Parvati’s elder sister, symbolizes the constellation.

The meaning of the word ‘Jyeshta’ is elder, senior, first, or the chief. Yogatara of Jyeshta is Antares. Antares is the brightest, most massive, and most evolved stellar member of the nearest OB association. Antares is nearing the end of its lifespan and is expected to explode as a supernova in the next million years. Even in this sense, the name Jyeshtha or elder is appropriate. Jyeshta was the eldest of 27 sisters. She felt betrayed and jealous because Soma, their husband, favoured Rohini, who is younger than her.

#Jyeshta #Nakshatra in #Vedicastrology is one of the Tiryaka Mukhi #Nakshatras (or the Nakshatras, which have their mouths curved). In these Nakshatras, things related to roads, dams, the expansion of metals, chariots, boats, etc., can be auspiciously begun and performed.

Symbol: An #Earring
The symbol for #Jyeshtha is an earring. This indicates the development of nerves in the ears and the ability to respond to sounds during this period.

Deity: The #Indhra
Indhra is the deity of Jyeshtha Nakshatra. Indhra means the one who controls Indhriya or senses. Indhra is considered a producer of earth and sky. He maintains the earth and the mountains. He is always frightened because someone could ascend to his throne. Getting immersed in music, dance, and the enjoyments of heaven is his weakness.

The yoni animal of Jyeshta Nakshatra is the #male #deer.
A deer is found in a quiet place in the forest and shows youthfulness, and the elegance of life.
When you see a deer, whether male or female, you feel a sense of calmness, beauty and serenity.
Deers reproduce at an extremely fast pace.
They reproduce once every year.
They are not as fast as a rat but reproduce quickly.
The deer is also one of the most killed animals by a car accident.
This can also show a Jyeshtha native usually always gets into car accidents or some kind of fender benders; it cannot be life-threatening unless other yogas are present and the person has completed their counted breaths.
Jyeshtha is perhaps the most lustful and sexual Nakshatra as the buck (the male deer) is ready to produce at any given moment.
The male deer also has antlers, which they use for protection and fight.
They show dominance and their right to mate with the female deer.
Deers can eat around 8-10 pounds of vegetation a day.
Jyeshtha natives can have a big appetite for food and can be fond of non-veg and exotic foods; some even love eating venison and wild game.
Bucks have to travel long distances to find a female deer to mate.
Sometimes they lose muscle mass and weight in the pursuit of sexual encounters.
Jyeshtha natives themselves will travel long distances if they know they will have a sexual encounter.
The symbolism of Jyeshtha is an umbrella, which shows protection and a sign of a royal authority.
The royal members of the family have someone follow them carrying an umbrella to protect them from the harsh sunlight.
It was used during wars on elephants to show the king behind the army, and mostly, it was the royal female of the palace who always had to be in the shade.

The other symbolism of Jyeshtha Nakshatra is the #amulet.
Amulets are usually used in old cultures in India, China, Latin America, and are used for occult and mystical protection to the native.
Indra himself used an amulet to win over his enemies.
Jyeshtha natives go deep into the occult, tantra, and hidden mysteries of the unknown.
Jyeshtha is also connected with yoga, especially Kriya Yoga, because it’s the eldest form of yoga to attain God realization.
Indra, having a thousand eyes, is extremely helpful in yoga as the Crown chakra is the home of the 1000 petal lotus.
Indra is the king of Gods and is considered as the hero amongst the Gods.
His mount is the Airavat elephant, which has 5 trunks.
His weapon is the powerful thunderbolt, #Vajra.
Indra defeated the dragon Vrittasur, which he had to do, having lost his kingdom by disrespecting Guru Brihaspati and having difficulties finding a replacement for the Guru.
The Vajra was made from sage Dadhichi’s bones.
Indra also loves drinking his Soma rasa.
Indra seduced Ahilya, the wife of sage Gautam, when the sage was away.
The sage supposedly cursed Indra to have 1000 vaginas. After doing severe penance, Indra eventually turned the 1000 vaginas into 1000 eyes and got the title of “the 1000 eyed one”.
In Mahabharata, Lord Krishna subdued Indra’s ego by lifting the Govardhan.
Indra was angry with the villagers of Gokul as they refrained from providing him with ritual sacrifices.
In anger, he sent heavy rains and wind, but Krishna protected the villagers by lifting the mount Govardhan and providing them shelter.
Indra admitted defeat and recognized Krishna as the incarnated godhead.
Indra is obsessed with Soma, the juice of immortality.
He always needed Soma in the battleground and had Tvastar make more and more juice for him, which strengthened his body like Arnold.

It is said that Indra leaves blood spatters on the ground during battle, which shows the energy of Indra and Mars together.
If Vishakha Nakshatra shows the lustful Indra and his theme of relationship with rishi’s wife, Jyeshtha shows the extreme lustful nature where Indra simply would kill the rishi and would force his way into the house and make love to his wife.
Jyeshtha is the intensified version of Indra.

It’s the Nakshatra of war, and all is fair in love-&-war.
The deity of this Nakshatra is Indra, who also presides over Vishakha Nakshatra.
Indra is the king of the Gods, who is the champion, and is seen as the one enjoying all the luxuries, drinking Soma, & gambling.
He is the king but also the most insecure, as he is not willing to let go of his throne.
He’s bulky, strong, handsome, with a huge ego and lust for women and Soma.
Whenever you think of a man who is godly, rich, a hero and loves to party, think of #Indra, and mostly that individual would have Vishakha or Jyeshtha Nakshatra in their chart.
Attributes of Jyeshta Nakshatra in Astrology
Spread from 16’40” up to 30’00” degree in the Scorpio (Vrischika) Sign.
The Lord is Mars (Mangal), the deity is Indra, equivalent to Ravi, the king of the firmament.
Indra is the great Lord, the mighty warrior, and a hero among heroes by tradition, and in the plenitude of power, he reigns supreme.
He is the first among courtesans. When this star is unfavourable, it causes sorrow and poverty.
Anthropomorphically it is the middle finger and neck of Kalapurush.
Description of Jyeshta Nakshatra in Vedic Astrology Treatise

#Jyeshtha#Nakshatra spans 16º40′ – 30º00′ sidereal Scorpio and is ruled by the planet #Mercury and the deity #Indra, the King of the Gods. Depending on the tradition, there are three symbols attached to Jyeshtha, an #earring, a talisman and an #umbrella (parasol). This is a sharp Nakshatra and stands for taking action and to overcome challenges.

Indra is the King of the Gods. He controls lightning and produces rain, he also keeps order and offers protection. With all that, Indra also has a great sense of ego, pride and is quite self centred. There are many stories where Indra is being put in place and brought “down to Earth” if you will. We find two of these stories here in Jyeshtha Nakshatra but also in other Nakshatras, one of them in Krittika Nakshatra

The Yogi’s Curse
One day Indra took on the appearance of the Yogi Gautama because he lusted after Gautama’s wife. When Gautama realized what was happening and came home to find Indra having intercourse with his wife, he cursed Indra to be covered with 1000 vaginas. Indra was so devastated he rushed to the Goddess Lakshmi to remove the curse, but Lakshmi told him that not even she could remove the curse of a powerful Yogi. She was however able to lessen the curse so Indra was covered in 1000 eyes in place of the vaginas.

Let’s look at Jyeshtha Nakshatras Symbology
Earlier I mentioned three symbols connected to this Nakshatra, the earring, a talisman, and an umbrella.

The earring is a symbol for Kundalini energy rising like a coiled serpent that some Indian Rishis and Yogic masters would wear to signify the mastery this energy. It also symbolizes the elder sister, heeding advice from others of authority and being protected by them, just like the elder sister would protect her younger siblings.

The talisman is an auspicious symboled that is meant to protect from occult forces. It’s also a symbol for the transition from the material world to the next level of consciousness, the spiritual world. In Jyeshtha we are approaching the last nine Nakshatras of the 27 Nakshatra wheel which mark the last phase of detachment from this material/physical world on the path to spirituality.

Lastly, the umbrella symbolizes protection, and protection from Indra’s anger. There are two stories that highlight the umbrella’s power of protection, from Indra specifically. One of them I already mentioned in Krittika Nakshatra. The other one is this:

One day Indra brought torrential rainfalls down on the village where Krishna lived, because the habitants had a big ceremonial feast but instead of making sacrificing to Indra as they normally had, offered their sacrifice to the animals and plants and people that sustained them every day. Indra had his ego bruised and got incredibly angry of course. The villagers were terribly scared of the storm Indra brought upon them and begged Krishna for help, so Krishna lifted up the nearby Mount Govardhana, placed it on the tip of his finger and held it there, using the mountain as an umbrella protecting the village from the rain.

Jyeshtha is a Nakshatra that can be very good for business and gains. It’s a Nakshatra of action. People who have planets in this Nakshatra often make good business people and negotiators, or are in roles to uphold the law and common virtue. Jyeshtha wants to be respected and taken seriously, when we do it has protection to offer, power and even financial prosperity.

What to do on a Jyeshtha Moon
I already talked about the does and don’ts during the Eclipse in general, here are a few things you can do during this New Moon in Jyeshtha Nakshatra:

Practice Yoga and/or Pranayama to centre the mind and engage your senses in a non outward action way.
Engage in your spiritual practice, mantra practice is great. This is actually a good time to go on a retreat and get away from mundane activities altogether.
Eat light or even take a day of fasting if it comes easy enough to you. Taken a load off your system during the eclipse will be helpful, especially since the eclipse naturally falls in the 8th house of digestion. (The actual placement of this New Moon will be different for each of us, as a general though Scorpio relates to the 8th house and will bring some of the attributes to the table).
Do mundane housework that needs doing, cleaning, laundry, menial things that don’t require much thinking.
Look out for friends and people around you. reach out if you need help or someone to talk things out and through. Meditation can be helpful but you have to know if it’s enough.
