Today, oh wait, yesterday too, I've been annoyed about how hard it seems to migrate from a "install PHP and run NextCloud" instance to "run Docker NextCloud".
Now, I don't consider myself a novice in hosting web services of various flavours. I'd argue somewhat completely opposite. I've hosted various services since the BBS times (if you don't know what that means, you're just not old enough). However here, NextCloud just got the better of me. No amount of reading the NextCloud Docker docs or trying to figure out things myself or searching for people with similar issues, all I get from NextCloud is:
Configuration was not read or initialized correctly, not overwriting /var/www/html/config/config.php
In the order of unhelpful error messages, this is pretty much 🖕 all the way. Yes, I've double and triple checked my mount file permissions. May just need to bite the bullet and install PHP on the new server I want to migrate to 😭 Maybe this is just another PHP thing.

#nextcloud crowd: Anyone out there has any idea how to use Notes on Android all along with versioning? I then and now end up by accident wiping notes on my mobile device, and even though my Nextcloud _does_ seem to keep previous versions of notes internally, I haven't yet found a meaningful way to make that work with the Android app or Quillpad. Is that even possible at all?

Nun gut - der Schritt von #docker zu #podman ist getan und Dank #podman-compose läuft unsere #Nextcloud quasi 1:1 seit 8 Monaten stabil.
Es wird Zeit, den zweiten Schritt zu tun: Den Compose-Rotz in einen #Pod zu migrieren, um dann rootless Port 80 und 443 anzubieten und einfache #systemd - Integration in einem Rutsch zu erhalten.
Hab' ja noch keinen Schimmer, wie ich vorgehen soll...

Stapt de overheid écht over op Google Docs? Staatssecretaris Alexandra van Huffelen (Digitalisering, D66) meldde de Tweede Kamer onlangs opgewekt dat de overheid zichzelf meer ruimte geeft om gebruik te maken van clouddiensten als Google Drive en Dropbox. (...)
In maart presenteerde de staatssecretaris nog haar ambitie: een „robuuste digitale overheid gebaseerd op publieke waarden”. In de brief over het Rijksbrede cloudbeleid blijkt wat daar in de praktijk van overblijft: elke departement mag voor zichzelf handige appjes inkopen en publieke waarden worden nergens meer genoemd. Bovendien schiet het beleid op drie fundamentele punten tekort: risico’s worden beheerst met schijncontrole, publiek geld wordt geïnvesteerd in agressieve monopolisten en de groeiende gemeenschap van ethische en open software-ontwikkelaars, ook binnen de Nederlandse overheid, wordt genegeerd in plaats van gestimuleerd. En omdat werkproces en gereedschap altijd op elkaar inwerken, wordt de afhankelijkheid van de overheid van big tech alleen maar groter. Erger nog: de mogelijkheid om zélf kennis, ervaring en visie te ontwikkelen op het ontwerpen en beheren van technologie komt op geen enkele manier terug in de Kamerbrief. Terwijl er een groeiende groep is van initiatieven, klein én groot, van overheden tot omroepen, bibliotheken en bedrijven, in Nederland en Europa, die zelf clouddiensten maken en beheren. Van NextCloud tot Jitsi en OpenStreetMap: open-source en volgens publieke waarden. Deze groeiende beweging van gemeenschappen wordt nu door de eigen overheid de pas afgesneden. (...)

#NextCloud Music has really improved since I last looked at it properly! Pretty sure last time I looked it didn't allow browsing folders in a neat way and playing anything under a folder with a simple click. Also the "Smart playlist" is nice, with the possibility to generate playlists both on genre, artist, etc, but also combining with playback history or when the track was added to the library.
