comment:

update: 2021-01 “the best (most privacy & security & usability) Smart Phone solution” is yet to be found (PinePhone (yet untested) comes close) and it would be like:

  • runs standard unmodified GNU Linux kernel
  • 100% open source drivers
  • comes with a firewall that only allows absolutely necessary traffic and asks users of any app / program that wants to send in and out data

the PinePhone comes close 🙂

  • running native GNU Linux compiled for ARM is a good thing
  • very much looking forward for that thing
  • hope it can be used as a daily driver! 😀

security crazyness:

beware of the snake: game for PinePhone contained “malware” that aimed at deleting (shred) all fiels:

“the community-developed open-source firmware for the Quectel cellular modem is immune to the bug being exploited and is overall more fully-featured, but Pine64 is required to ship the exploitable proprietary firmware by default for regulatory compliance reasons”
