#UCLA, the top-rated public university in the United States, experienced one of the darkest nights in its 105-year history on Tuesday. Over the course of my 33-year career at UCLA, I have never seen anything so terrifying take place.

Around 11 p.m., a group of masked counter-demonstrators made their way to the Royce Quad in the heart of campus and began to attack the encampment set up last week by demonstrators opposing the war in Gaza. They threw a firecracker into the encampment, tore down its outer walls, threw heavy objects at demonstrators and instigated direct physical confrontations. Those in the encampment were left to fend for themselves against a violent band of thugs intent on inflicting damage.

This Rabbi is charged with anti terrorism charges: This morning, seven rabbis and activists were arrested by Israeli police at the Gaza border as part of a delegation of thirty rabbis and other peace activists with Rabbis for Ceasefire from Israel and the United States who were attemping to bring food supplies into #Gaza through the Erez crossing.

The Passover Haggadah reads, “Let all who are hungry come and eat,” and teaches us that we must work for the freedom of all people. The Israeli government is enacting a famine on the people of Gaza. Forced starvation is just one of the many weapons of war that the Israeli state is using against the 2.3 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

This group of rabbis and activists came to the Erez Border crossing on Passover carrying aid in coordination with UNRWA, an organization critical to providing international aid to avert famine and further catastrophe for the people in Gaza. The Israeli government has banned #UNRWA from operating in northern Gaza. Rabbis for Ceasefire is bringing food aid to demonstrate this dire need, to call for the opening of all border crossings to allow in aid, and to demand an end to the siege on Gaza.​​​​​​​

Food aid is essential but not sufficient. To save the lives of Palestinians on the verge of death by the Israeli government's policy of forced starvation and siege, there must also be sufficient infrastructure in place to safely supply and distribute food alongside medical care. Life for Palestinian people is impossible without a permanent #ceasefire and lifting of the siege on Gaza.

As Rabbi Brant Rosen says, "next year, may there be liberation from the river to the sea."

Children of the northern @Gaza Strip staged a protest in the streets amidst a worsening famine due to the occupation's blockage of aid, comprehensive siege, and the #UN #WFP's suspension of food aid to Gaza.

"We can't find anything to eat. Give us anything."
A father stated, "Bring us flour. We haven't seen bread for two months. At least bring us wheat so we can grind it like our ancestors."
A mother added, "My daughter tried to eat her hand out of hunger."

The children chanted, "We want flour," stating that "hunger began to eat our flesh and bodies," and called on the world to do anything to ensure the entry of food aid and life necessities.

A young girl delivered a speech:

"A message of hunger and oppression from the people of the northern Strip to the free people of the world. We came out today to raise our voices loudly through this peaceful march after hunger began to eat our flesh and bodies.

"We appeal to the world, to the whole world, to look at us with eyes of mercy and compassion and to do everything they can to save us and enter humanitarian supplies and basic necessities, especially flour, and the lifting of injustice and oppression, which is unprecedented in modern human history. Otherwise, we won't wait long until we die of hunger and go with our shrouds to the Beit Hanoun ['Erez'] crossing. Either we survive with what we eat, or we die with dignity, pride, and honor.

"So O free people of the world, help us, and may Allah help you in return. Lift this injustice quickly, for the moment will come for you where you will not find what will save us."

Geneva – Israel’s policy of starvation in the Gaza Strip will have long-term, irreversible effects, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Wednesday, after international experts predicted that the number of victims of starvation and related diseases may exceed the number of those killed directly during the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in the Strip, ongoing since October 2023.

A new policy paper issued by Euro-Med Monitor entitled “The Gaza Strip: A scene of genocide since 7 October and a potential famine zone on 7 February” examines the dire food situation in the Strip and the probable famine there, particularly in the enclave’s northern governorates. The policy paper was based primarily on reports issued by international organisations, most notably the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global initiative.

According to the Euro-Med report, the number of trucks carrying humanitarian aid that are permitted to enter the Gaza Strip per day, in the best-case scenario, is between 70 and 100, with two of those trucks going to the northern governorates. Prior to 7 October, the number of aid trucks entering the Gaza Strip daily was at least 500.

Most people have moved on with their lives, but Israeli assault on Gaza is ongoing: According to the Government Media Office, Israel's military bombarded 29 houses in the past 24 hours, killing 127 civilians and wounding 205 others, over 90% of whom were children, women, and elderlies.

The government held Israel as well as Biden's administration and the international community, which have been supporting Israel's genocide, responsible for the massacres against the Palestinian people.

The Nation Magazine: Only in US foreign policy can a person supplying weapons that he knows will be used to commit mass violence be taken seriously if his buddies tell reporters that he was privately unhappy about the whole thing.

  • On November 16, The Guardian reported that “behind the scenes the tensions are escalating.”
  • On December 14, CNN described “unprecedented tensions” over the war.
  • On December 18, The Hill wrote that the White House was “growing increasingly critical.”
  • On December 21, The Washington Post wrote that Biden and Netanyahu “disagree with growing vehemence” about postwar planning.
  • On December 31, The New York Times reported that things had “grown increasingly fraught” between the two countries.
  • On January 14, Axios reported that Biden was “becoming increasingly frustrated” with Netanyahu.
