The Jan. 6 committee bet big with #CassidyHutchinson. Did it pay off?

The result was the most explosive day of testimony to date in a string of revelation-rich hearings. #Hutchinson testified that former president Donald #Trump knew his supporters were carrying weapons that day but urged them to the #Capitol anyway. She also recounted Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato telling her that Trump had lunged in rage at a #SecretService agent after the #president was informed he could not accompany the rioters as they marched from the Ellipse.

Just where do the US Secret Service executive detail's loyalties lie?

And how robust is that?

There'd been a brief discussion of this late last month on Mastodon.

It turns out that the US was far closer to testing this on Jan 6, 2021 then we'd previously realised. From the Washington Post about a week ago:

Former Secret Service agents and national security officials emphasized the even more horrible events that could have unfolded on Jan. 6 if either Pence’s or Trump’s detail leaders had made different choices. They described the unimaginable scenario in which the president and vice president set out on a violent collision course at the Capitol, two leaders with opposing goals meeting up, accompanied by their dueling security guards and Trump’s chaotic army of protesters. Trump, after all, had been pressuring Pence to refuse to go along with the final count of electors, and some rioters were chanting, “Hang Mike Pence!”

Reading the Park Police IG Report More Closely
It doesn't support the headlines.

This past week, "the Inspector General for the Department of the Interior released a report on the United States Park Police’s (USPP) involvement in the expulsion" of protestors from Lafayette Park outside the White House last summer during the George Floyd protests.

#NYCSouthpaw offers a great analysis of the report and asks questions that most reporters apparently didn't bother to think about, much less ask. In similar fashion to the Mueller Report, the headlines simply reflect what was spoon fed to them. Journalist need to do better.
