One of the largest legal proceedings in German history is due to start on Monday with the first of three trials of a group of far-right conspiracists who planned to violently overthrowthe country’s parliament.

So sprawling is the network, so extensive their plans, that for a mixture of logistical and security reasons, the 27 people due in the dock have been split into three separate groups.

On Monday a group of nine, identified as the “military wing” behind the group ringleader, the self-proclaimed Heinrich XIII, Prince Reuss, 72, will be the first to go on trial in the southern city of Stuttgart on terrorism charges.
Nine others, including Reuss and other prominent members, go on trial in Frankfurt on 21 May.

Prince Reuss, an antisemitic businessman, descended from a formerly aristocratic family, founded the group with the express wish to violently eliminate the state order.
In the event of the coup’s success, he was due to be declared provisional head of a new German state, which would have redrawn the country according to its 1937 borders.
According to federal prosecutors, the group planned to enter the Reichstag in Berlin with armed support to arrest members of the Bundestag or parliament with the intention of “overthrowing the system”.

US supreme #court ‘erred badly’ with #Trump ruling, leading US historian says

“For historians,” the brief said, “contemporary evidence from the decision-makers who sponsored, backed and voted for the 14th amendment … demonstrates that decision-makers crafted section three to cover the president and to create an enduring check on insurrection, requiring no additional action from #Congress.”

On Monday the supreme court disagreed, saying in an unsigned opinion: “We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But states have no power under the #constitution to enforce section three with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency.”

This makes it one of those democracies where there are draconian punishments for minor crimes that overcrowd the prisons, but those who attempt a #coup have nothing to fear.

NYT Confirms Putin’s Accusations

#Zerohedge summarizes the genuinely shocking expose by The #NewYorkTimes concerning 12 #secret #US #military #basis inside #Ukraine near the Russian border that have been there since 2016:

On Sunday T_he New York Times_ published an explosive and very belated full #admission that US #intelligence has not only been instrumental in Ukraine wartime decision-making, but has established and financed high tech command-and-control spy centers, and was doing so long prior to the Feb. 24 Russian invasion of two years ago.

Among the biggest revelations is that the program was established a decade ago and spans three different American presidents. The Times says the #CIA program to modernize Ukraine’s intelligence services has “transformed” the former Soviet state and its capabilities into “Washington’s most important intelligence partners against the #Kremlin today.”

This has included the agency having secretly trained and equipped Ukrainian intelligence officers spanning back to just after the #2014 #Maidan #coup events, as well constructing a network of 12 secret bases along the Russian border—work which began eight years ago. These intelligence bases, from which Russian commanders’ communications can be swept up and Russian spy satellites monitored, are being used launch and track cross-border drone and missile attacks on Russian territory.

This means that with the disclosure of the longtime “closely guarded secret” the world just got a big step closer to #WW3, given it means the CIA is largely responsible for the effectiveness of the recent spate of attacks which have included direct drone hits on key oil refineries and energy infrastructure.

“Without them [the CIA and elite commandoes it’s trained], there would have been no way for us to resist the Russians, or to beat them,” according to Ivan Bakanov, former #head of the #SBU, which is Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency.

A main source of the #NYT revelations—disclosures which might come as no surprise to those never willing to so easily swallow the mainstream ‘official’ narrative of events—is identified as a top intelligence commander named Gen. Serhii Dvoretskiy.

Clearly, #Kiev and #Washington now want #world to know of the deep intelligence relationship they tried to conceal for over the past decade. It is perhaps a kind of warning to #Moscow at a moment Ukraine’s forces are in retreat: the US is fighting hand in glove with the Ukrainians. And yet the revelations contained in the NY Times report also confirm what #President #Putin has precisely accused Washington of all along.

The Russians obviously know about these bases since they presumably have had control of them for most of the last two years. So, why is Washington suddenly admitting to them now? Are the neoclowns attempting to establish some basis for arguing that since the #USA has been actively waging #war on #Russia for a long time, more aid and even direct military support for Ukraine is justified?

At some point, the anti-Russian Narrative is going to collapse, as one lie after another is exposed, and it eventually turns out that the Russians were doing nothing but telling the truth about The Empire of Lies and its activities in Ukraine all along.

It also documents how the CIA not only kept #PresidentTrump in the dark with regards to its anti-Russian activities, but consistently undermined him and his policies.

🔶️ The suspects are accused of membership of the fringe Reichsbürger - or Citizens of the Reich - movement.

🔶️ "The members of the group strongly rejected state institutions and the free democratic constitutional order," according to the indictment.

🔶️ They are mostly associates of Heinrich XIII Prince Reuss, a Reichsbürger figurehead from an aristocratic family.

🔶️ Prosecutors have charged the 27 people with planning to overthrow Germany's democratic political system.

🔶️ Concrete preparations were made for a coup beginning in summer 2021.

🔶️ Prince Reuss was planned to be head of state. On taking office, he would negotiate a peace treaty with the Allied powers which won World War II. Prince Reuss tried to meet representatives of the Russian government to gain support for the coup, according to prosecutors.

🔶️ Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, then a member of the Bundestag for the far-right Alternative for Germany party, would have been made justice minister. Prosecutors said she granted access to parliamentary buildings to other co-conspirators.

🔶️ According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany's domestic intelligence agency, there are about 23,000 followers of the Reichsbürger movement in the country.

One of #Thailand's most prominent political activists, Arnon Nampa, has been sentenced to four years in #prison under the country's much-criticised royal defamation, or lese-majeste law.

He was convicted by a court in #Bangkok over comments he made during a protest in October 2020.

Thailand's lese-majeste law forbids anyone from insulting the monarchy on pain of harsh jail sentences.

It has been increasingly enforced since the #military took power in a 2014 #coup.

According to the police sources, the suspects allegedly intended to use peaceful protests in the country as a cover for "attacks on state institutions" of the French-aligned country

At the end of June, the country held presidential elections, which were won by the incumbent head of state, Julius Biot. His opponents said the results were rigged.

As the wave of #military intervention in the polity runs across several countries in sub Saharan #Africa, the #SierraLeone police have arrested several senior military officers in the country’s armed forces, after weeks of political instability triggered by the controversial presidential and general elections held on 24th of June 2023.

President Bio did not attend last week’s #ECOWAS leaders meeting in #Abuja, as security around the president and State House remains tense.

With several West African nations including neighbouring Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and now #Niger under the grip of disgruntled military leaders who justify their intervention with evidence of corruption by the ruling elites, poor governance and growing poverty, countries like Sierra Leone will continue to face political instability and threats of military coups if election crises and question of legitimacy are left unresolved.
