I have friends & colleagues in RU- lovely people devoted to family, good works, doing what they can to make things better, even within a very oppressive & authoritarian culture which goes back generations.

Yet, with regard to leadership and enablers of war/genocide, some may rightly wonder 'If the Russians love their children too.' (Politburo e.g.)

Afgelopen zaterdag(30 juli '22) gaf #Sting een #concert in #Warschau. Dit was wat hij tegen zijn publiek zei: “Democratie wordt aangevallen. Ze wordt aangevallen in ieder land in de wereld. Er is een groot gevaar dat we haar verliezen tenzij wij haar verdedigen. Democratie is rommelig, frustrerend, vaak inefficiënt. Ze heeft constante aandacht en bijstelling nodig. Maar ze is het ondanks dat waard om voor te vechten. Want het alternatief voor democratie is een nachtmerrie. Een gevangenis, een gevangenis van de geest. Geweld, onderdrukking, gevangenschap en je mond moeten houden. Dat alternatief heet tirannie. Alle tirannie is gebaseerd op een leugen. Hoe groter de tirannie, hoe groter de leugen. De tiran liegt tegen zijn land, de wereld en vooral tegen zichzelf. Wie zich uitspreekt tegen de tiran riskeert gevangenschap, foltering en de dood. En toch is dat wat we moeten doen, wij allen. We moeten dat risico nemen en ons recht om de waarheid te spreken, verdedigen. Onze geesten worden niet gevangen gezet. We moeten de vrijheid om onszelf te zijn verdedigen, in onze geest, in onze lichamen. De oorlog in Oekraïne is een absurditeit, gebaseerd op een leugen. Als wij die leugen voor zoete koek aannemen, zal het ons zwaar op de maag gaan liggen. Maar de leugen is bang voor de waarheid, de waarheid moet gehoord worden. En we mogen dit gevecht niet verliezen

Walking on the Moon

This vast expanse of sand without ocean nor lake was a bit eerie, but not totally without life, when I zoomed in close enough.
Just looking at the slight ripples in the sand, and what do I see? Killdeer? No. Willet? No... Aliens coming from the sand?
Turns out these birds saw something in the once-thriving lake/marsh bed. And I learned this is a SemiPalmated Plover & a Sanderling.

Look for small things, small movement... especially while...

That #wedding, which cost a reported roughly a billion dollars to put on, included a 12-feet-high wedding cake and a ballroom ceiling covered in flowers; as parting gifts, guests were given jewelry-encrusted boxes. During her set, Lopez half-joked that “the hardest thing I had to do today” was learn how to pronounce the names of the bride and groom.
