"Australian Honey Bee Council chief executive Danny LeFeuvre said in light of this recent finding, containing varroa mite in Australia has now become much more complicated.

"It's the worst-case scenario for the response having detection in blue zones, and so far away and in a high-risk area with almonds and other hives in close proximity," he said.

Crop Pollination of Australia president Steve Fuller said with so many hives from across the country positioned in the Riverina and Sunraysia at the moment for the almond pollination, the outbreaks could have a big impact on the industry.

"This is our greatest fear. You're looking at tens of thousands of hives in those areas doing almond population at the moment," he said.

"This is bigger than Ben Hur now.""

If We Don't Help The Bees We Will Face Extremely Unpleasant Consequences (Video)
We’ve already covered neonicotinoid insecticides and their effect on bees and birds in another post – however this video is a great introduction to the topic. It’s super important for people to understand this. There is a lot of money at stake and the pesticide manufacturers will do everything they can to keep their poisons legal.

I had to kill my favorite spider on my balcony.

She has been catching a lot of bugs and small creatures, but this morning I saw 2 dead bees in her net.

I barely ever see any bees managing to come up all the way to the 6th floor of our apartment.

So I did the unthinkable and destroyed the next of the spider and possibly killed her. I would be happy to move her to the other side of the apartment where there are enough bugs for it to eat. But sadly it really hard to catch.
