How Ukraine became the unlikely home for Isis leaders escaping the caliphate
Ukrainian authorities announced last week they had arrested a top Isis commander in Kiev in a joint operation with the CIA. He appears to be one of many to have made Ukraine their home, writes Oliver Carroll in Kiev

Will spring arrive in six weeks or will it be a month and a half?

My experimentation with my new #MacroLens continues. Some things I've noticed are that: obviously it's sensitive to small movements and so a steady hand and subject are needed and that the #DepthOfField is quite small. So, I think it's better to switch to #AperturePriority mode rather than automatic so that I can select a higher #F-Stop to increase the depth. This means that the shutter speed goes down and so one still needs a steady hand or tripod. So I'm left with a compromise between depth of field and steadiness required. Also, ideally, you would need to be in bright light conditions.
Here's the #Crocus again -- there aren't too many interesting close subject around at this time of year.

I recently bought a #MacroLens for my #camera and I'm experimenting with it. It's second hand and so cost less than half the price of a new one. It behaves quite differently to the #ZoomLenses I have and so it will take time to get used to it. Here's a #photograph of a #crocus #flower growing in the front #garden. I quite like the focus on the #stamens

Crocus
Stealthily the virus
climbs, its footsteps, shatters silence;
the loud thud, orphaned thought,
grieving for freedom
that was taken for granted,
hijacked;
flowers bloom,
breathing in the colors, thoughts freely flow,
Crocus makes life spring,
orphanage closed:
language of
mute flowers, drowning
dis-
ease
