Poland is ready to immediately transfer all their MIG-29 planes free of charge to the US government as part of a move to give the planes for use by the Ukrainian air force to repel the Russia invasion, the Polish government has announced.

Poland also said it was asking the United States of America to provide it with used aircraft with similar operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately agree on the terms of purchase of these machines.

The Polish government also asks other NATO countries - owners of MIG-29 planes - to act in a similar way.

The move follows weeks of backstage negotiations and discussions in London between the Polish prime minister and Boris Johnson

This is why #capitalism will come out of all this unharmed:

The businesses will not necessarily close down but they will be legally separated, in the latest example of multinational firms responding to the invasion of Ukraine by pulling out of Russia. KPMG has more than 4,500 workers and partners in Russia and Belarus, while PwC has 3,700 and EY has 4,700.

KPMG and PwC confirmed the businesses will no longer be able to use their brands or name once separated.

Meaning, we still earn money there, we just forbade them to talk about it.

Head of Ukrainian separatists announces mass evacuation

The head of the Russia-backed separatist states in Ukraine has announced a mass evacuation of citizens in what may be part of a plan to trigger a Russian intervention in Ukraine.

Denis Pushilin, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, announced that he believed Ukraine was planning to attack the separatist state and said he would begin a mass evacuation of its citizens to Russia on Friday. The Luhansk People’s Republic, another Russian-backed separatist state, announced similar plans.

[...]

In a video statement, Pushilin said he was organising a “mass, centralised departure” of the population to the Russian Federation, adding that “women, children and elderly people are subject to evacuation first”.

He also claimed that he had agreed with the Russian leadership to prepare sheltering points for the population in the Rostov region of south-west Russia. The buy-in from the Russian authorities for what would be a difficult logistical operation to move hundreds of thousands of people could indicate that this is a serious development.

Ukraine immediately denied Pushilin’s claims, as well as others in Russian-backed media that claimed the Ukrainian army was targeting a chemical facility.

That’s a wrap: French plastic packaging ban for fruit and veg begins

From New Year’s Day, France will ban supermarkets and other shops from selling cucumbers wrapped in plastic, and peppers, courgettes, aubergines and leeks in plastic packaging. A total of 30 types of fruit and vegetables will be banned from having any plastic wrapping, including bananas, pears, lemons, oranges and kiwis.

Packs over 1.5kg will be exempt, as will chopped or processed fruit. Some varieties, including cherry tomatoes or soft fruits such as raspberries and blueberries, will be given longer for producers to find alternatives to plastic, but plastic packaging will be gradually phased out for all whole fruits and vegetables by 2026.
